There was a piece in the paper this week. IIRC clothing attacts the attention of Customs at about $220. Then again a motorbike jacket might be safety equipment, not clothing. Guess it depends how keen the Customs people are?

To cheer you up, here's a joke about Customs officers, Scotish ones this time...

That's not correct. The $60 is the GST payable amount. The amount that attracts that much GST is $400.

I'm gonna try and get at least a partial refund. I don't see why there is no duty on motorcycles, their parts or helmets but there is on all other gear? I guess Im not technically required by law to wear the right clothing but it's safety gear, I need it so as to keep my skin?

Is your gear from FC Moto coming as one package or seperate items?

Well, one of my packages got held up by customs. Unfortunately it was the bigger of the two packages. $350 later and its been released to nz post today. Still making a good saving though and my second package got through without any extra cost so great savings all round.

Bummer it got caught but at least you are still looking at it from the positive side. I was doing the same thing. Even after customs charges I was still ahead. In the future though I will look a little closer at the item and try to estimate the possible customs ahead so it wont be a shocker. Good to hear though that you made a good savings.

Yeah. My back protector attracted no duty while the rest (clothing) did. I don't really see how armoured leathers are so different to back/chest armour but hey, what do I know?

Got the rest of my gear yesterday and went for a ride with it last night. Loving it, feels like savings.
