I'm right with anybody and everone to say a big thanks to those se who roll up their sleeves and get working for our sport. They're volunteers from all walks, all abilities and experience levels.
So often I've tempered peoples discontent by reminding them of this when they have a whine.
There is a "but", and a big "but". Whether a person is hard working, passionate, generous, sincere etc they must still meet a minimum standard of operating with the rules and codes they're administering. Otherwise they create more damage than they're worth. Even worse, their low standards scare good people away, who might otherwise get involved.
The answer? Get appropriate people into these roles and SUPPORT THEM. If you don't, then you'll just get short changed with rabble whose real agenda is to feel important, and who do not consider the rights and welfare of the riders/sport.
Has it always been a problem? In my experience, no. About 5 years ago Johnny Hepburn was the RR Board member for the South Island and Paul Stewart the RR Commission. Happy days of good people practicing open communication of the type "how can we help" Since then it's all been "we're the experts, you're doing it all wrong, get into line or else"
