    GPS vehicle tracker

I'm looking at buying a GPS tracker for my bike. I'm not after anything fancy that's going to cost me the labour of an auto sparky to install, just something basic that I can put in myself. I've been having a look on Trademe and there are many options.

I've noticed that the last one on the list has the ability to plug into the bikes electrical system, and it also has an aerial for the GPS receiver and an aerial for the SIM card. Do you think the GPS aerial will make much of a difference to the accuracy of it? The other ones don't seem to be able to plug into the electrical system of the bike, so what kind of battery life can I expect? I don't mind having to recharge the GPS tracker battery every couple of days if need be.

If you didn't smoke so much I bet you could remember where you left it....

    GPS tracker

    Hi
I've got one installed on my bike. Same as the one in the 1st few links you have from Trademe.
Got mine off ebay a bit cheaper about 18 months ago, $80 including postage at the time. Tis very small, about the size of a matchbox. Am pleased with it. Make sure you buy it with the car/bike charger with it.
I have it concealed & wired directly via the charger to the motorbike battery. If disconnected the small internal battery gives it about 8 hrs working time I guess.
It was relatively easy to set up but for some reason (lost on me too!) a 2degrees simcard would not work with it but a vodafone simcard would. I initially thought it was faulty & 2degrees couldn't explain to me why it wouldn't work. By chance I put a vodafone sim in & suddenly no issues. Can't use telecom sim either but it of course will receive calls & send texts to all three networks.
The setup instructions are in English but written by someone from Asia so they are not that clear to understand so be warned.
When phoned it texts you its latitude, longitude position & speed.
    As to how to use.
Once setup you can ring from a cell phone to the GPS tracker via the vodafone simcard. When it connects,( it sounds a bit like a fax machine) hang up. About 3 minutes later the tracker sends a text with its position & speed.
Note. If it is in a area without cell phone reception it won't work. The GPS part works, but it just can't send texts or receive calls.
As for accuracy it is accurate to within 10 -12 metres I reckon. If I ring it at nite I can check that it is tucked up & in the garage. :-) Its that easy.
Hope this information is of use. Cheers

I brought a T103 from EBay, similar as the ones you’re looking at but a little (not much) larger and a few more options.

With my one you can switch the bike off and it’ll tell you if the key goes on or if the alarm goes off if you have one.
Also has an SOS function that’ll text “Help me” and your lat/long to any number you program in.

If you get one PM me and I’ll help where I can.
