I was gonna make an attempt at getting out on the bike tomorrow, so maybe I could meet you somewhere?

I've PM'd you my mobile number.

Ye ha, what a day, weather great , nice run down the back via 22 to Ngaruawahia, meet up with Slim, (sorry we were so late Slim) onto Kawhia via 31, great road !, stop at Kawhia for gas, My mate thought gas goes in the eyes not the tank , still all good, and off again heading to Te Anga, 40ks out of Kawhia, one of us had a slight bin, slipping out on wet tar @ about 130,ks another good reason for wearing proper gear, so slow trip back, due to lack of front brakes on my mates bike, head to Otorohanga try for reps, "slim" to the resuce, while we stop at Waitomo, Slim rings Bikes& Bits Hamilton, and sorts out the parts for us . So now we have the bits, but times running out, no problem "Ken from Bikes & Bits invites us round to his place in Hams, hes bought home the things we need, 15 mins and hes done the work , thanks Ken.. & thanks Slim for your company and all your help.. :bigthumb:

So Slim escorts us out of town, and its a quick blat home, stopping at the Bombays for a coffee..

Hey Dave I'm glad you had a great day in spite of some unforeseen happenings. It was truly an awesome day weather-wise. I would have been with you except that it was such short notice and I had made other arrangements which I couldn't get out of. Now if it had been Thursday or Friday...
But who was the mate who had the "slight bin"? Or are you sworn to secrecy??
Now how about a ride tomorrow or Friday...?

The unfortunate person to have their bike binned was I.

I was coming out of a corner while the bike was starting to come up from the lean. The chip seal had worn right down on that part of the road, which left a huge patch of melted tar due to the heat from the sun.

As you could image with the bike still relativly leaned, the rear tyre clipped the melted tar and lost traction. At that point the bike slipped out from under me and went sliding for 5 or so meters.

The fall and a slide was so graceful that it wouldn't have excited anybody if it was a theme park ride! I immediatly got to my feet without so much as a scar or bruise and walked over to the bike.

I mangaged pick the bike up on the second attempt. The damage was mainly cosmetic. A scratched fairing and muffler. The front brake lever was replaced in Hamilton by a yank who goes by the name of Ken.

Taught me a thing or two about how important leathers are and possibly that parts of that road should be marked hazardous.

All in all, a good day, a lot few dollars to spend and a couple of experiences lived.
Oh and thank you Dave and Lisa for your support, you guys were great.

Oh CK, don't let Rosco get wind off this, he thought I was at home being sick.

Thanks for a great day out, although I was pretty knackered by the time I got home (7pm) and that shower sure felt good by then! I've flagged going out again today, but might go for a short blast on Friday, maybe....

I had a good day, just pootling along at my own, non-agressive pace and think I did pretty well for my first day back on the bike after my op. It was a bit of a shame to have Andrew low-side it but the roads down there are pretty awesome, if you remember the dangers of hot sun on infrequently maintained roads. Dave & Andrew were both having loads of fun up till that point, but it was still a nice, cruisy ride (for me, at least) onwards to Waitomo, fully enjoying the sun.

If you ever need any second-hand parts, definitely call Bikes & Bits down here in Hamilton, and Ken the Mad Yank appears to be a very knowledgeable mechanic to boot. You'll certainly be entertained while you wait!

Cats eyes, dead animals, pot holes... few more reasons why I love the track more than the road.

Now that you have fessed up, I have to say in your defence that you were going extremely fast at the time, and I think that the distance your bike slid might have been a bit more than 5m
