Auckland Uni parking - WHERE?

Considering going to Auckland Uni, have applied and awaiting their response. Just wondering, where do most of you that go there park? I know there is some on Princes St and some on Symonds St and Alfred St. Anywhere I missed out?

Any undercover parking?

Are the places mentioned above, safe to park a bike?

I was thinking Victoria St Car Park (just under albert park), that has undercover bike parking. I was wondering if there were any more?

there is no covered bike parking at uni...generally park on symonds st outside the rec centre,which is opposite the engineering bldg which is specially desginated for bike parking...i have sometimes parked on the side of the recreation centre wher all the cycle stands are..i have seen an orange kawa parked there occasionlly as well....the other place to park is opposite the geeneral library..theres heaps of parking there at all times....alfred st i thhink..all of one side of the road is meant for bikes....u cud also park it behind the engineerin bldg,not in one of the pof desginated car parks but there is a bit of space near the back entrance..to get to the car park take a right turn onto grafton road from symonds st lights and to ur right u will see a diveway sloping upwards...hope this helps....there is a website as well which tells u of parking...more for cyclists not sure how helpful it is...but here it is...http://www2.auckland.ac.nz/bikes/rpo...acilities.html

i go to akl uni but take my bike very rarely...weather et all these days....got my bike nicked from behind eng...but moral of the story is never park it there until too late..if u park until 4 pm odd then its sweet....parkin on sym st is safe as the rec cntre is open till 9:30 weekdays and so theres always a crowd arnd...get a disc lock in any case for safety.......and hope to cya arnd...

Right out the front of the place is heaps of bike ONLY parking...
Check out where everyone goes to the Maidenment theatre.. thats where I mean. Dont know the name of the street... But I have parked there...

See bikes parked in there and its under cover.
Never used it caus I'v got under cover lock up parking in town

There's lots of parking for bikes but none that I know of under cover except for a secret little place that only I and half a dozen others know of near the HSB. Oops, too much said already. In the open the safest place is in the specified parking areas outside the library. Be prepared to get your mirrors knocked as people squeeze past to cross the road - too lazy to walk a few metres along. DON'T be tempted to leave your bike next to a cage between the trees in Symonds St. Even if there is 3 metres between, some careless c*nt will back into it andn kock it over - happened to me a couple of months ago.

I have seen quite a few bikes park in that spot, it looks pretty full. But I will give it a go anyways.

You'd probably be best off at Alfred street. As you've got two things to protect you.

#1: Lots and lots and lots of people walk through there everyday and they would hopefully notice someone trying to pinch your bike (unless you visit Uni at unregular hours).

#2: Bring along a crappier bike than anyone else has and hopefully it won't get pinched.

Also it's by far the easiest place to park into, no reversing in symonds street ( ). You can just head along princes street, pull into alfred and have a go at taking out pedestrians as you ride down the footpath.

I find nicking up on to the footpath on Symonds St then riding straight out over the gutter is easier than trying to reverse in.

Mind you there is always people double parked blocking the left lane on symonds st

Try not to get pissed at Shadows Uni bar and fall off your bike in front of the library on Alfred St like I did. It is totally embarrassing. The uni bar was called Shadows in my old days. dont know the name of it now.

This is what I learnt after 5 years at Uni.

1. The students that spends the longest hours at the pub and cafe usually ends up with the highest pay jobs and retire early in life.

2. The best selection of girls are in the stage 1 psychology lectures.

The rest was just a blur.

I tend not to park on the sides of a street. If someone really wants to *borrow* your bike, it will only take 3 guys 3 minutes to lift up a bike onto a truck that's right next to it. If someone walking pass steps up and confronts (which is very unlikely), all they need to say is "Bike breakdown, pick up for service".

A chain lock does a good job, find something like a pole you can chain your bike around.

If you really want a underground parking, you could sneak into the underground staff parking from science building side of princes st. There are a number of bikes parked around corners in there, and the security guards used to give out warnings but not these days. (dunno why). If we all park our bikes in there, there is a good chance that the warnings will come back.
