does your bike have a electronic speedo, if so the easiest way i have found is to fit a speedo healer and then set it to half reading so that at 180kmph the bike thinks it is doing 90 fooling the limiter.

Either a wheel/magnet on the rear of the speedo unit (inside the housing) that passes through something to create a circuit, or if you have a gear indicator it may run off that.
I can have a look at it if you are up near Bunnythorpe/Feilding at any time.

yes iam pretty sure it is electronic . when i got the bike it was geared way down so it went quite a bit faster before cutting out, (atleast 225kmh, last look before pinning it) but was really hard on the clutch to get it off the line.
ive since geared it one tooth up on rear sprocket from factory and now speedo reads 190kmh whilst cuttiing out but it is only reading 175 on my gps.
fittting a speedo healer and then fooling it will my speedo read correctly? excuse the lack of knowledge in this area.
    cheers mitch

If it's an electronic system I can't help, but if it has a mechanical speedo I can look.
Sounds more like you have an RPM cut out that's linked to CDI unit/gear position sensor, that'll require speedo healer for your speedo accuracy and a resistor to fool it into thinking it's in second gear or any gear that won't top 180.

the speedo will show half speed if it is set up that way to fool the speed cut out. you soon get use to it and it is easy to double what ever speed is showing on the speedo to get a true speed. there is only one switch to throw on the speedo healer box to set it to half speed, if you leve it accessable under the seat it is easy to change modes between true speed and half speed to suit the riding you are doing that day.

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and guess it has carbs, so prolly no gear position sensor. I'd also guess like most of 'em back then it has a mechanical speedo, not electronic. If that's the case it should have a plug with 3 wires coming out of the back of the speedo. If it has this you can join 2 of the wires together to defeat the limiter. If ya take a look and it is this setup I'll try to find the wire colours that you join.
Pretty much all the honda's had it done this way back then.
    Lemme know.

I had a looksie and as expected with the unit in the speedo unplugged it lowers the limiter to 5500rpm, just like my ZZR600/400 does. I can't take the limiter unit out ad the speedo is waterproof/sealed

    Wires:
    Orange/blue stripe.
    Green/black stripe
    Brown

I'm assuming orange/blue goes to the cdi, green could be ign and brown gnd. Can't test it, my multimeter has a dead batterey

I'd start by seeing which ones go back to the cdi box
I think if you can send me the link to the diagram I can figure it out

If you connect the lowest voltage to the ground, I think that'll get the cunt.

Pretty sure you join the orange and brown ones together ( from memory the brown has 12v and the orange goes back to the ignitor) and leave the plug out. I used an old plug and made a loop on it to do this and just plugged it in where it normally plugs into the speedo.

So we want to send a 12V signal to the CDI?
Makes sense, if the hall effect thingy cuts the circuit, then it's limited to 5500 rpm in whatever gear it's in.
