    Christchurch - need a clamp

I need a clamp as I want to fit a radar detector to my bike. There is a round 15mm diameter bar and I need a mild steel clamp which can clamp onto that round bar. The clamp needs to be quite strong as I will be welding a plate onto it to mount the radar detector. I went to Bunnings and Blacks fasteners and they don't sell anything like that. Where can I buy one?

How about a shaft collar with a grub screw, weld a plate on top of that?

That would be good. I just don't know where to find one.

Engineering supplier, blackwoods or similar, that sells pumps, motors or gearboxes.

Are you going to stick the detector in a klick klack box, bungied onto the plate for quick removal ?

I don't know. I was thinking of somehow sticking it to the metal plate that will go on top of the clamp. I could weld some allen keys to the clamp for easy removal, or use thumb screws.

Not really. I don't ride fast in the rain and I don't plan on leaving the bike unattended with the radar detector mounted onto it anyway.

What's the matter with a small U bolt ? Which you will find at Bunnings i think. Easy peasy to attatch a plate to it as well - just drill 2 holes and use the U bolt....Grubscrewed collars come loose too easily.

ID:	255858 would be my second choice.

Just has to be mild steel so I can easily weld onto it.

I think 5 is the magic number here.
