I was driving home from work in Wellington (in work van) and it was later than i normally go home so I entered 6oclock traffic on Dixon St.
Ok its not the biggest jam up in the history of rush hour traffic and I suspect alot of places are worce....BUT
conditions.
A- 4 lanes all being used
B- traffic rolling and stoping max at walking pace
C- cages swaping lanes most changing because they think a lane is faster than their own some to turn into tunnel and some to go Newtown
D- cages not indicating to change
E- some doing so with no warning and at a split second decision
F- BIKE SPLITTING LANES
Now im no saint and I go to the front of line at lights etc so dont get me wrong but I do it when cages have stoped and at a speed that idd class crawling.
What i did notice was that some splitters had zero chance if a cage changed lanes on them.
Im sure most do it and most say if they change lane without indicating its their fault etc but its not going to hurt less etc.
These lane changers sure didnt look for bike they didnt indicate and they acting on a instant to do it.
Is it their fault if they collect a bike?
I kinda think if your lane splitting as in my illustration then your in the wrong.
Reason being if your sharing a lane with cage on its left hand side then are you not passing it on the left which isnt ok?
Does that rule apply if they arnt moving or only while they are?
Lets see some paint shop action with little line men etc no YouBoob links of Nob Heads doing 200 through traffic etc.

Only if traffic's moving
But it almost sounds like it's your 1st time in Wellington peak???

A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"
Bowls can wait !
If you're splitting at twice the speed of normal traffic then you only have yourself to blame if you fug it up. Up here in Auckland I dont see that many bike splitting fucktards on the motorway. It all comes down to your speed differential with the rest of the traffic. You linger in peoples mirrors long enough for them to see you and always have an escape route if someone decides to lane dive in front of you.
That period of time when the traffic is still free flowing and just before it starts to bottle up is the worst though. With drivers all diving into lanes without warning.
So its not just me or do a percentage take chances and role the dice.Im thinking if poo comes to shove 20 cage drivers will say its your fault if accident happens.
So is the only legal way over the top as per road code illustration??

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the rider in that pic would be in the wrong (no doubt I'll hear about this) as it is illegal to undertake a vehicle in their lane. IE to be in the right you ah have to be on the right.
[edit] I just re read the OP, and yeah I agree instead of just repeating.

Rider is wrong if traffic moving (as the pic would imply, tho the truck or car would also be doing something wrong then too) or fine if traffic stationary... Unless the pics from America, then the rider is fine
