    Utter tosh!!

    Hire a wet nurse
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Yes I suggested to Vicki that we should get in some nubile topless young girl as a wet nurse. Of course at that time she was not (understandably) much interested in other activities as well so I did suggest we could get in a stand in for that as well...

Nursing mothers are just so damn moody......

I saw it ... she was not the perfect choice "to go on tv" for their cause ...

I think a few generations have passed since SHE last breast-fed ...

    Oakie's daughter here again..

Watched Cambpell Live and Close Up last night re: Boob-Gate...

Piri Weepu on Campbell live - great speaker, great interview - and he summed it up perfectly at the end 'my kids - my choice, no one is going to tell me how to raise my children'. His Mum spoke too - VERY much in supportive of her son, of course - and she made a lot of sense.

WHICH is more than I can say for the tree hugging hippy wench who was on Close Up.... I was close to throwing a rock at the TV. Then I realised I would miss Shortland Street. That wouldn't do.

She mentioned breastfeeders feeling like they were a minority, that they were picked on, that bottle feeding is normal. SHE obviously hasn't sat around parents rooms in ANY mall and observed breastfeeding mothers reactions to bottle feeding mothers. The most daunting experience I have had as a mother is walking into the parents room to bottle feed my daughter (I know, lock me up, throw away the key) - to find a congregation of about 5 breastfeeding mothers all sitting their feeding away, and every single one of them giving me the death stare as I made up my bottle of formula to feed my 2 week old baby - then having the following conversation with one..
boob-nazi: oh how old is your baby?
intimidated bottle feeding sinner: she's 2 weeks old
boob-nazi: oh. that's young to be giving formula. you should have been informed about why you need to breastfeed
bottle feeding sinner: I was, and I tried my hardest, but it didnt' work for us
boob-nazi: I'm sure you could have tried harder...
bottle feeding sinner retreats to feed baby elsewhere.

Have nada against boobfeeding in public - had I been able to, I'd have been plopping it out right along side them, but it wasn't a reality with either of my girls... and I have only ever been made to feel like a terrible mother because of that. the lactavists (that is the term they use for themselves..) get up in arms about being asked to move elsewhere because someone feels uncomfortable with seeing a breast out in public..... but then THEY make bottle feeders feel uncomfortable feeding in public, and like they are a sham and a poor excuse of a mother.

I happen to think that the image of Piri Weepu as a caring/loving father and supportive spouse is probably going to make more of an impact on people than the 5 second image of Piri Weepu feeding his baby a bottle.

*AS* a single parent I love seeing a Daddy who is cuddling his baby, feeding his baby, playing with his baby... you know, BEING A PARENT... It's something that a lot of kids miss out on (luckily I wasn't one of those children), and I think if ONE man (or woman) decides to make more of an effort to be a better parent because they saw a much loved Kiwi bloke doing this.... then the ad is going to have enormous pay off - for that kid anyway. And that kid who suddenly has an awesome Mum/Dad because of this? THEY are going to follow their parents lead be more likely to be a nurturing/etc/etc parent in 20, 30 years time.

Did I mention this is something I'm passionate about?

    +1 to all that

I can only imagine how that evil witch in the Mother's Rest (btw - herring bone or rotary?) made you feel, if you wanted to breastfeed but couldn't.
If that happens again, ask the heartless bitch if she'd like the job of wet nurse. Explain that it's a 24/7 position, the pay is lousy, but oh! the job satisfaction she'll get seeing a baby through to school age...

I'm all for pro choice. Breast or bottle. Whatever works for both you and bub. So long as the baby isn't screaming because its hungry, really at the end of the day who cares? La Leche has really gone to far by kicking up a fuss about nothing, and its probably only damaged their "Breast is best" push.

As for those who have been looked up and down for bottle feeding, well it works both ways. I have been told multiples times that breastfeeding was disgusting. And that once a baby turned one they were to old to breastfeed. Got treated like filth for feeding my son up until he turned two. Ended up being too ashamed to sit down and feed him anywhere unless it was at home.

End of the day you can't win. But some people need to seriously get off their moral high horse. How about we make an attack on something that seriously needs it like our child abuse stats instead of something as ridiculous as a child actually being fed.

    Christ.

I was not happy with how that made my wife feel and I voiced my concerns to lay the fuck off as it obviously wasn't working. It doesn't work for everyone and I find it hard to believe that professionals, even though they're looking at a bottle that's been expressed for nearly 5 minutes with less than a teaspoon of milk in it, push and push a mother having just gone through childbirth to struggle through with a crying baby and the "humiliation" of not being able to produce enough milk... Apparently I was quite angry at the time.

As XxKiTtiExX says, who gives a fuck as long as the baby is getting fed, the last thing a knackered woman that's just given birth needs is pressure and a screaming baby.
