Agree - way too old. But then, when IS too old? There isn't any hard and fast rule, is there?
Personally, I'd have thought teeth would be a good indicator.

I think a lot of women do too....
Surely the term 'milk teeth' is a clue? Don't they start loosing them at around 5/6?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Wow, the fun you can miss when you don't watch the news! I'm actually surprised no Pro-Boob's have jumped in...or is it because since we here are predominately male we would like to keep the monopoly of the bossom.

This breast vs bottle is getting really fucking old. At the birthing centre, my wife was in tears several times trying to breast feed. It was our midwife who just happened to pop in during a try who, with a disgusted tone, said to the nurse, "what the hell are you doing? Clearing the mum is pain. This isn't bonding. This will do the opposite. Think!"

Sums it up really. People should think. I used to love hearing comments from people about our son saying "wow he's a big boy. He must be breast fed."

To which I would proudly say "nope bottle. And proud of it".

When I'd feed the boy in public, I would always be disappointed no nazis's approached me giving me a go. I had a prepared speech that included all the things a mother had to eat to effectively provide the adequate nutrients for the child and if they were eating that way. Purely to shut them up. Never used it so I guess woman don't like given shit to men, only other women. Bloody bullshit.

What's best is what's best for the child AND mother. Be it any way. If both are happy that is the only thing that matters.

I am. Thought my posts made that clear. I happen to think that human milk is best for human babies, and every mother should be encouraged to breast feed. Encouraged...not forced...I'm not rabid on the subject, like the harridan on CloseUP and her ilk that started this.

People tend to not realise that breast milk is only available as long as it is 'extracted'. Stop (or never start) feeding, and it dries up. It is a rare thing for a dry mother to start producing again. So all those that bottlefeed no longer have the option anyway, so it is a redundant argument that they are doing their baby a dis-service.

I must have skim-read over your post. "Encouragement" is very much one of those perceived traits. As in, what I perceive as encouragement, you may perceive as forcing. It's unfortunate but a fact of life. Some people genuinely want to help, others need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.

I liked our midwifes way of doing things; this is why it's better (natural, cheaper, etc), give it a crack, some people can't do it. Don't feel bad. Give it a couple goes. But you're not going to hell if you can't. And tell people to stick it if they look down on you.

Of course she used more colourful language. That's how the encouragement should go. I probably take more of a hard-core stance on bottle feeding being perfectly acceptable (be it formula or natural) simply because of all the hard-core anti-bottle judgmental people. It's purely defensive.

encouragement - the expression of approval and support - the act of giving hope or support to someone - the feeling of being encouraged

coercion - the act of compelling by force of authority

I'm not sure how anyone could mistake encouragement for coercion

Ya know if I diddn't know better I'd say its another case of. "we don't actually want fathers in a nurturing role"
The message loud and clear from the rabid BIB brigade is just that.
Maybee times have changed but with my lads the nicest thing I could do for their mum was take them away for a few hours so she could get some rest Or do one night feed for her. Go figure shitty nappies had to be changed and they needed feeding.
    Formula it was
To see a life newly created. To watch it grow and prosper. Isn't that the greatest gift a human being can be given?

Also, in support of returning the advert to include the Piri 2 second clip, people have been changing their profile pictures and avatars on Facebook etc.. to show themselves bottle feeding their child.
