    Cycletreads Auckland - 0/10

I took my bike in on Tuesday for a basic tuneup. (My attempt to diy changing "jets" did nothing.) When I dropped the bike off they did not seem keen at all to help and I suspected more to come. The whole week none of my emails or calls were returned and today Saturday I called the top floor (clothing sales). Got call back that bike is not good and I can pick up if I want, guy on the phone not sure what they done. Got there, they apparently changed jets on the carb. Pretty cheap $35 bucks ...and I get the carb cover back, wonder why did such a half job, not assembling the carb. Took it down the reoad and 100% no Improvement. At $35 its the cheapest way to find out these guys are complete frauds. Should have listened to the first guy that told me don't go there! Now its a few photos and off to the media buddies and tick of another sting for Target successfully completed. My score 0/10 to Cycletreads.

    Changing jets

...thats where I caught him lying. Its not like changing plugs. See to change jets on a Mikuni BTM 36 you first need to take the carb off. That means these marked screws should not sill have lock-tite on them hahaha! Then you have to actually open the carb...and break these seals. All still there where I put hem. Oh yes and the actual "jets" well guess what, they have numbers on them! You stupid stupid wannabe!

As I recall, you've been agonising over a butchered carb for a while now. I'm guessing even the professionals can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear...?

It sounds to me like a combination of bad communication and unreasonable expectations. At $35 you certainly haven't been charged for a change of jets.

Perhaps you should take it up with them directly, rather than raging about contacting the media...?

I have always found them to be very good when I've taken my bikes there.

I'm surprised to hear you had bad service.

    agreed.....

first of all, if you know more about it than they do why don't you do it yourself?
secondly.... why dont you take it to the people you usually deal with? did they tell you to fuck off?
You take it somewhere you've never been before even after somebody tells you not to take it to them.
It just doesnt add up mate.

    Kiwi honesty

I phoned and asked a simple question, no bullshit. I have a bike and the carb need to be tuned or checked out, yes I had a look but had no luck. I said I can bring it in on Tuesday and they said they will try to get it done before the weekend as I asked. No threats no lies no cover ups not hidden facts. A simple, request go and check what I wrote on the worksheet, "No power at top end bogs down"

You can stand up for your lying Kiwi mates as much as you like. I'm not going back there, I had bad service, I have the email and phone calls to prove it. I was nice. Please can you return my call. Please tell me if my bike will be finished, or how far you are. The owner (or looked like him) gave the plastic bag with the carb parts to me in my hand. He knows who I am, go ask him if I was nice to him. Then come back to me and tell me about Kiwi honesty MATE!

    Diy

FYI, I know why this place is so full of DIY now, there are just no other option.

Pretty sure you dont want to hear about my Bunnings Kracher waterblaste I bought a few months ago... I've heard better excuses form kids man, its sickening. Can you guys not just own up to it and be honest for once! I have you by the nuts, say "yes your right I admit its wrong to lie and steal money from someone who want to pay for service."

If anyone at Cycletreads came to me and said "hey this thing is fukt dont waist our time leave now!" I would have turned away and said at least these guys are hones (and I can trust them!)

As you can see the above post proves my point. Lets focus on the "workshop individual who lied" seeing I spent a few hundy at the top too, and got good service.

Not CT specific but after getting spectacular customer service from Australian shops I have been left disillusioned by a number of motorcycle shops in NZ, especially in cases where I'm 'giving them money for nothing'... i.e easy profit for them for not much work.

There is a good reason I do a lot of work myself and have prefered mechanics which I go back to on account of them doing good honest work for me in the past.

The proof is in the pudding. Three things ordered via Australian/American shops via email - fast replies to questions, usually within three hours, deposit paid and order confirmed quickly, all questions answered in full at the time and not left hanging, callbacks/emails to notify that parts are ready to pickup.

My dealings with NZ companies via email have often ended in needing to go and speak to them face to face to get an answer, or having simple instructions not followed. Thats from both 'reputable' bike shops and wholesalers alike.

That said, I've always had quick and informative replies from technical specialists like Robert Taylor, Ray Clee and the like, and when you consider how much time they spend on the tools thats something to behold compared with someone running around in a warehouse/shop floor.

    1. No, I dont know more thats why I try for help. easy one
    2. first time bike owner, no previous mechanics, first time ever dealing with bike shops.
    3. I meet people with bad experiences (all the time) many are once off. I'd thought I give this one a try as its easy to get and looks like its not that bad. Been there before and had good service upstairs.
    4. You, right! Good service upstairs, bad downstairs, does NOT add up!
