Power Commander

I dont really get why they seem to be bike specific models. If I am uploading a map specicfic to my bike does it matter what bike the power commander is made for or comes off.
Im thinking of getting a second hand one to save some bucks but nothing around for my bike. Can i just get any and upload the map?

They are bike specific because of the injector plugs etc.

as nodrog says (and I'll elaborate), different bikes have different types of plugs for the various systems. The powercommander plugs in between the ecu and the engine, changing the signals the ECU has sent, so has to have the correct male/female and type of plug etc.

Long story short, buy the model for your exact bike, unless you're certain another is compatible.

True dat.
Be prepared to have a mess of wires and insulation tape unless by some miracle you can track down some pugs to match.
Might be cheaper to order new direct from factory than muck about with changes?

Power commanders cost at least as much in time to tune in on the dyno, to get the most out of them, or they are not buying, that's my experience anyway.
Don't worry about top end power, when tuned in they are brillant for an increase in low and midrange.
