yeah don't fool yourself, there will be a lot of pissing around to get it to run right, if yer super lucky it will be restricted to jetting, but you could find all the ign, charging etc cannot be bolted on the other engine. Taller engine so pipes unlikely to fit & small anyway for another 200cc, any fittings, head stays. Electric start may not work, but they all failed on the 400 so you might not miss that, but will the kicker miss the pegs in the differnet chassis?
I'm not saying don't do it, but be aware. As you might by the requirement of an LVV certificate as the engine is more than 15% mroe power, don't expect the WOF place will miss that.

Hi, I'm looking for a new kick starter gear unit for my Honda GB400. I've located a GB500 unit in the States. Does ANYONE know if they are compatible?

Hi Just a heads up- its a common fallacy that engine changes only need certing if 15% more power or above. What the rules actually say is if the ORIGINAL engine makes 15% power or more, it needs a cert. If you are changing an engine that is the same or less capacity and bolts to original AND unmodified mountings it wont need certing.
If the engine is bigger capacity or mounts need modification then a cert is required. So going from a GB400 to a GB500 motor will need a cert. Any time a turbo or supercharger is added it requires a cert. here is the link...

...while we are on this subject...my girls CBX 550 threw its primary out of the casings recently and having 'been there' with that motor before, I was wondering if there was a more robust IL4 from the Honda factory that might be mounted in the CBX...more of a , we cant really afford a new bike thing, and are exploring options...?
CBX400? Start scouring the wreckers or Ebay for a 550, but most would have junked that stock for later model stuff to make space, just a fact of the wrecking game, or at least the ones that survive.

...robust may have been the wrong word...having scoured the traps for spares for the cbx and having very little luck on the occasions we needed bits, I cant be fucked going through the hassles again...in saying that, she saw a new marque of machinery she liked at Methven yesterday and guess what...... not being able to afford a new one was then...the now is different...
