    Custom-made throttle cables in Christchurch?

    Hi there,

I've used "Diggers" for awhile and I'm pretty much over dealing with him. The service has been bad, and I've twice got cables back that were not to spec.

I've previously recommended him, with the comment about poor customer service, but I retract that now.

I need two throttle cables shortened, and one choke cable lengthened.

Thanks! I shoulda remembered they might be an option. Have you had them done before by SRB?

I'm pretty sure I once looked into SRB and for some reason went with Diggers.

Do tell. I can't even get the crimped hardware off the outer sheath, let alone machine new nipple ends since I don't have a lathe.

Nor do I know of where to pick up the stainless cable lines, nylon inner, stainless steel outers with plasticized rubber shielding.

I've had a handbrake cable for a Laurel made by them and they did a pretty good job. Pretty much the same sort of thing as a throttle cable.

    Phoned Safe R Brakes.

So far, just on the phone... better customer service.

And they said they do the cables I'm after, and quoted a price $30 cheaper than what "Digger" charged me last time.

Will go get them done there and if I remember, will post about quality.

Made it into Safe R Brakes.

Gave them two damaged throttle cables, 1 choke cable, and 1 brake hose, with drawings of each including full measurements of cable and housing.

Better to deal with than Diggers, pricing is about the same though.

Will see if they follow the drawings, as I ran a photocopy of it.

    Picked up today.

$130 for 1 new cable, 1 reworked cable, 1 new choke cable and 1 new brake hose line.

    Visually, all looks good.

All fit well, although choke cable a tight fit. I haven't checked if what they made matched the measurements I gave though (I just put it all on instead!).

Haven't filled up the brake res or anything yet

I guess time will tell if they hold!

So far... for Safe R Brakes.
