    Weekly living costs while renting?

So I'm going to be living on my own soon (Don't ask) and trying to work out rough weekly expenses.
Trouble is I know what I earn per week, what child support will be, roughly food/petrol etc but I can't seem to find any info on how much a week it'll cost to run say a 2 bed unit in Auckland (prob Manukau City).
Can anyone give me an indication of what expenses I need to allow for and how much i.e. rates, water, power, phone, internet (ok phone and internet I can find). Anything I've forgotten?

Even the CAB don't have any kind of updated living expenses to use as a guide.

    Cheers

AFAIK renters don't pay rates or water. Could depend on where you live though.

Power should be less than $100 a month (was around $80-$100 for me and the GF in a tiny 2 bedroom place, is $100-$200 with 4 of us now). Depends on how many PC's, TV's and fridges you have really!

    I would budget

    $100 /month Phone & Internet
    $100 /month Power

    And thats about it really?

Rates should be covered by the landlord (you end up paying for it as part of the rent). You might use $250 a month of power in winter, maybe $150 in summer depending on the age of the place you're renting and what heating you have. Internet might be $80 a month, phone maybe $40 (do you really need a land line phone?).

Sit down with a piece of paper and a pen and write down all the weekly expenses (rent, food, power, internet, phone etc) and you should have a pretty good idea how much you're going to spend.

Re child support...100% depends on how many kids and how much you earn. As much as $600+ per week or as little as $50...

Sweet, so rates I can forget about then! A lot of rental ads I'm looking at don't include water rates, infact hardly any do - can't imagine it'll be too much though.

Mine started at $1200 per week. Took them a while to understand it was wee bit more than I earned.

Can be less than $50 a week, I receive the princely sum of seventy something dollars a month in child suport. You can work out How much you'll have to pay in Child suport fairlyaccurately on the IRD website.

Indeed but what someone pays and what the other person receives can be waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out.
The day that 'they' can proof that a kids costs more than $80 per week to raise, then I'd be happy to pay it
