    I hate computers

hi there, i seem to be having trouble with my mums laptop. Microsoft wont finish the automatic updates. ive been through the help stuff and it still wont do anything. was wondering if this will effect the laptop or not. and if it does, what do i do to fix the damn thing. its already had windows re-installed and we've only had the laptop for a year. i just want to burn the thing.

What's happening? Is it stalling on the download of the updates or the installation? Some more details would be helpful like what version of Windows, what laptop etc.

Otherwise, ring a computer geek mate

Its a toshiba and is running windows 7, when the automatic updates are ready to be installed, i click install, wait and then they come up as failed. This is the message i get:

    Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932)

    Installation date: ‎15/‎02/‎2012 6:21 p.m.

    Installation status: Failed

    Error details: Code 800B0100

    Update type: Important

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is a recommended collection of updates and improvements to Windows that are combined into a single installable update. The service pack can help make your computer safer and more reliable. A typical installation will take about 30 minutes to complete, and you will have to restart your computer about halfway through the process.

Ive done the help stuff and still nothing.

    Shoulda got a Mac

"doesn't finish" in what way??? & if the laptops still working it won't affect that, just means not everythings "up-to-date"

Have you backed up all of your important data?

    Try this:

    www.support.microsoft.com/fixit/

    and try install SP1 again

A quick search says you are not alone alot seem to be having the prob & given your assumed skill some "fixes" might be beyond you
But 1 fix people are suggesting is to manually (not using auto update) download SP1 & try that, it's probably worth a try
Goto this link & download "windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe" its not small but it may work for you

Off topic - has everyone's internet been really slow for the last few days? Similar to what happened a few weeks ago but not quite as bad

mine's been pretty temperamental over the last week or so... thought we'd hit our limit but I highly doubt that

Edit: 8.69 DL ... certainly doesn't feel like that at all
    I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!
