Nissan gonna be a V8 Supercar in 2013

Nissan is gonna play with the boffheads in 2013. Apparently they're gonna announce it today but they don't know what model they're gonna use. I reckon it's gonna be the Navara.

The Kelly racing are the team that's gonna be the Guinea Pigs.

So there ya go. It's finally happened. Didn't think it would be Nissan though. I supposed they played before buy then the v8's cried.

Probably all that will be allowed, if anyone remembers what happened the last time the Japs got to play

Yea Toyota were supposed to be in a few years back with their Aurion, but for some reason only ever went V6 with their car, probably found it too much hassle to conform to Holdens (Holden advantage) rules. If Nissan do enter & win, expect more rule changes

They should be able to use their own V8 alloy or not under the rules as I understand them, they have a parity system to allow for just such an instance.

Edit: I heard a rumour that Nissan were going to introduce their Infinity brand to Australia so this may well be part of the marketing for that,

This would make sense. I know Chrysler is looking at joining the Super Tourers in 2013. I believe the "car of the future" for the supercars is a similar concept to the super tourers here although probably not as hard core (body is the only thing different between cars). There's been a bit of worldwide interest in the super tourers since you can have a car on the track for $200k that can go as fast as the Super V8's. Make's for better value when you compare the $1mill +.

It will make an interesting series in 2013. As long as they don't make it a procession with the car changes adding another manufacturer can only increase interest.

with the current split amoung hte super tourers and the NZv8's not doing any good for NZ motorsport, we are barely big enough for one series, and def not 2, having chev motors in ford bodied cars is still not that great imo

Yeah the engines is something I'm in two minds about. The big thing is they shouldn't sound the same even if they are the same engine.

Something needed to be done with the current series. The NZv8's are fossils. They didn't get off their asses to do something about them until the Tourers did something. I'm not a fan of reactive action. Even with the NZV8's sorting their shit out now, I think the series will die and they'll have to suck it up and join the Tourers. The tourers have some good plans and looks like they'll run a professional series. I guess we'll see after 2 years.

I think whatever series has the best commentators and TV coverage will get the sponsor $$ which is the main thing.

The only thing not doing any good for NZ motorsport is the dickheads at Motorsport NZ!
The Supertourers are a bloody trick piece of kit compared to the old taxis that are NZV8's; those pieces of shit have done their dash as have the self serving wankers that are the Motorsport Company.
It's no wonder that all the decent drivers and teams have left NZV8's in droves for the Supertourers and the class is getting huge interest from overseas as these are proper race cars.

I know the engine thing will grate with some of the die-hards, but the reality is that the Chev engine is a bloody reliable motor that will quite likely do a whole season compared to the expensive boat anchors that NZV8's are forced to use.

It's looking like even Angus Fogg is going to swap camps (both to Holden and Supertourers) though from what I heard through the grapevine the only reason he didn't change sooner was money related (lack of it). I can't see the NZV8's continuing for much longer particularly in light of the popularity of the V8 Challenge Cup which uses the old NZV8 style cars as a feeder class for the Supertourers.

There is also by and large a great team of people behind the Supertourers who are actually interested in racing and making the series successful rather than lining their and their mates pockets...

Personally I can't wait to see them race and I think it will be a bloody awesome series, something that top level motorsport in this country has been crying out for for years.

Right, my rant over...as you were...

Holden and Ford should be frightened about opening the door to the Jappa's again, or the Euro's for that matter. Audi would build a fucking diesel family saloon that will out perform their tanks. If Nissan were to be able to run the R35 GTR I think it would be an absolute SLAUGHTER.
If Audi and BMW were able to run V8's they could put BMW m3 and Audi RS5 derived race cars into the mix. I would put $100 on them for the win every year.
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.
