Mister Ed was not a horse.

For you oldies who can remember the early days of NZBC, here's one. "Mr Ed" was not a horse but a Zebra. according to this website which explores myths and the like.

See what you think, For real?

Personally, I dont care much anyway, I never liked the dumb programme. I do think the 'Snopes.com article is wrong. Surely a black & white zebra would still show up on B&W tv with stripes? The Palamino horse was used for promo pictures etc.

Well we'd have to be talkin' about one charming motherfuckin' horse. I mean he'd have to be ten times more charmin' than that Arnold on Green Acres, you know what I'm sayin'?

I'm not convinced by the photo comparison: "How a zebra appears on black-and-white TV" vs "How Mr Ed appears on black-and-white TV". The zebra and Mr Ed are in exactly the same position. It's the same photo! (Which I suppose is their point, but it's not corroborating evidence, is it?)

    Wikipedia begs to disagree

The stars of the show are Mister Ed, a palomino horse who could talk ("played" by gelding Bamboo Harvester and voiced by former western star Allan Lane [who went uncredited for the entire length of the series] ), and his owner, an eccentric and enormously klutzy yet friendly architect named Wilbur Post (portrayed by Alan Young). Much of the program's humor stemmed from the fact Mister Ed would speak only to Wilbur, as well as Ed's notoriety as a troublemaker. According to the show's producer, Arthur Lubin, Young was chosen as the lead character because he "just seemed like the sort of guy a horse would talk to".[2] Lubin, a friend of Mae West, scored a coup by persuading the screen icon to guest star in one episode.

Why Mr Ed was a clean living, fun kinda of "American" who lived in a suburb and coud have been in the shed next door!
I notice he never did doopies or else there was a great mountain of it that never got shovelled away! Perhaps Wilbur had a great garden out the back, but we never saw much of the back end of either the stable OR Ed!

That's what I reckon. They were always black and white on the "On Safari" series. The only thing to give the article any credence, is, it's made in America I dont think realism ever played a big part in their entertainment industry.

Of course, Superman was real. The world is still here, so he must've saved it
