Tyga exhaust for a ZXR250

Hey guys, I have a ZXR250 A with a perfectly good working exhaust... BUT since I bought it, it has had an unsightly big visible dent on it.... my luck with wreckers has been that wrecked bikes often have good working mufflers with scuffs, dents etc.. I already have one of those, good working mufflers with scuffs and dents; and for the money I would spend for a stock muffler that’s mint I have decided I would rather put more money into it and get something nice.

I was looking for something that wouldn’t require any cutting and welding, just when I thought that was too much to ask, I found this http://tyga-performance.com/site/pro...oducts_id=1529 . Tricky bit is, its for a ZXR250 C and i have an A.

Now that the intro into my story is done, my questions are:
• Anyone fitted one of these on their bike before?
• Does anyone know if the mufflers on the C and A are interchangeable? Meaning would this bolt on without modification?

• And lastly although perhaps not that important... DOES IT SOUND TOTALLY AWESOME?

yes.... the price is a bit of a biggie there, i had at first been looking at them locally or in australia but the australian dollar is as expensive to buy at the moment as the us dollar, and respectable carbon fibre here isnt cheap either. with shipping it will come to 380ish dollars, but because it bolts straight on i wont have to pay someone to do the cutting and welding that absolutely every other exhaust ihave found would requier.

this is the only straight bolt on exhaust i have found, with the added labour to fit it most decent looking things end up costing around that much anyway.

now you say it "should fit". is this an educated guess? or something based on definite knowledge and fact? i apreciate the input, but i need to be fairly certain... before i invest almost 400 on it.....

man i hate to ask this..... but does anybody know if skidmark is still around? havnt seen him comenting around the place since i came back after a year and a half absent from kb.

The price? We're all looking at the same USD$250 carbon fibre muffler right?

I've never seen a Tyga product that didn't fit as advertised.

What I thought he meant was that it was more expensive that the cheap stuff you can get on trade me... but I just assumed that, again with the welding labor since they are all slip on it would come to about the same price as this anyway (shipping included even).

I completely trust the product to fit as advertised, the problem (for me at least) is the product is advertised to fit a ZXR250 C not an A like mine, which is what I am asking, has anyone fitted a ZXR C muffler on a ZXR A or vice versa?

I have been having a look at the ZXR C service manual but it is very vague about the muffler, it really talks about the whole exhaust system not really the muffler. I dont have a ZXR A manual to compare it to though so I am just looking at the bike itself.

Email Matt from Tyga; generally he takes between 24 and 48 hours to reply to queries.

Anyone have a C and can measure the flange bolt centres?

Really though, this is pretty basic shit. If the flange doesn't fit, chop it off and weld on one that will let it fit.

I was just thinking the exchange rate from the USD to NZD isn't very pocket friendly at the moment... that's all...

Really though, this is pretty basic shit. If the flange doesn't fit, chop it off and weld on one that will let it fit.

well if I was going to cut and weld then that would open up a whole lot of other better/cheaper/cooler looking options of slip on exhausts, so only real reason (while I really do like this one) I am buying this one is the convenience of fitting it myself in minutes, with no extra help at no extra cost.

I did email him and got this reply :P :

"Thanks for the enquiry. Unfortunately, we don't have the A model to compare it with so I can't say with certainly how easy the silencer would fit the A model.

Perhaps you could check with a forum or somebody who has a lot of experience with the ZXR250s."

according to his suggestion at least I am on the right track here :P

That's a bit of a bugger. Perhaps take your ruler to town and ride around till you find one parked up? Perhaps one of the bike shops has one in stock?

If you were in Christchurch, I could sort you a flange and a welder... all you'd have to do is turn up with your pipe, have a coffee, and ride off (loudly!).

it would take a little longer than a few minutes
dont break a exhaust stud.

Just the muffler mate, not the headers. IIRC the muffler is retained by 3 8x1.25 flanged hex key bolts?

I the couple of years that i have been on this site now non of the awesome useful offers of help ever seem to come from auckland

thanks for the thought though, that would be totally awesome if not somewhat far from me.

I work somewhat close to red baron I see they have a zxr A there now, and they have had Cs in there from time to time, i may drop by and ask, but in the past they haven't been very helpful to me with anything that didnt ultimately result in monetary benefit to them, so we will just have to see what happens.

I actually thought it would be quiet simple to get a ZXR C rider to just tell me if the muffler is also held by three bolts and give me some rough measurements, I know theres tons of them here.

yes for the ZXR A, now if anyone can confirm its the same for the C. and yeah when I said a few minutes I meant 10 to 15 minutes... with proper tools and everything it doesn't seem that unrealistic for a bolt on muffler

i would email them . i would think if it fitted the A the add would say that it also fitted the A . I have a C . with stainless headders and alu muffler . looks and sounds great .

get a straight through muffler and bin the air filter and gear it down and you a rocket ship. will probably need rejeting too. i wish i could find someone that has rejected theres

I have emailed them a few times now with different questions, what they told me was that the only zxr250 they had got they hands on was a zxr250c they just have not had an A model to compare against, so they actually just don't know.

If I went through with it they said they would be interested to know how it went. probably to advertise it fits A models too

stainless headers? those aren't standard how did you get those?
