Poor retort though. Could have gone on for days slagging each other.

Bit unrealistic, Drew? Surely not for days....oh...you said slagging. As you were.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

The words "I've done it plenty of times before with no problems ... it's perfectly safe" crop up on this site often. Especially in "I've crashed" threads ...

If all riders/drivers have the right attitude and awareness .....

    But they don't ....
Look, I am fully aware and willing to admit I wasn't being aware enough this time. But you seriously can't tell me that you believe all accidents of this nature can be avoided. There are times when a driver will not be showing any of the signs that they are going to suddenly make an unindicated lane change, especially when there isn't really a gap for them to change into. I am not trying to deffend myself, just you are being really ignorant if you believe that EVERYTHING can be seen from behind your visor.

And if you are going to pull me to bits, at least make it clear you are talking to me by using the right personal pronouns

With my (admittedly) limited lane splitting experience ... being in close proximity to other traffic (cars, trucks, or even motorcycles) needs/demands your full attention. Drop your guard and you're dead meat (litterally)

In bold type is the key to your life ... being a little longer. Think about it. If you choose to continue to lane-split ... remember that line. Say the words out loud as you split. And if you dont back off a bit then ... it is you that's the "ignorant" one.

I'll talk to those that want to listen (ok ... a few that don't too). Your reply means you were listening ... but the post wasn't made directly at you. Your reply does makes me think I hit a nerve though. Funny that.

The things that kill you .... are the things you weren't looking for. Not the things you didn't see.

Perhaps if you think on my reply ... you may live just a tad longer.

You really think anyone who is lanesplitting isn't aware that they are taking a major risk? Of course I am aware of that I made my decision. this time I came out on the wrong side of that risk. You don't know what I could see and what I couldn't I was looking out for everything and it was too late when I saw any sign. But the nerve you really hit and you clearly were referring to me when you called me a he is that you are willing to say I did eveything wrong but not willing to see that this isn't all a boys club and there are some of us girls out here

Most may be aware it may happen, but decide they are/will be ... aware of possible problems ... before they become a problem.
And when it is a problem ... the "not my fault/idiot cage drivers" comments come out.
The more often you lane-split without incident ... the more relaxed you will be doing it. Not always the best thing to do.

Just because you never saw an issue, does not mean it was there to be seen. I've missed a few things over the years (and got the scars to show for it) but try lane splitting in places like Singapore/Bangkok (I have ... and lived) so I have some understanding what I can/can't see from behind my visor. Auckland traffic is nothing by comparison.

My apologies for the HE comment ... I will edit that post. But male or female ... the same risks and rules apply to BOTH. Unless YOU are special.

ps: your editing and grammar needs work

Lane splitting, do it at your own risk. There is no such thing as safe lane splitting, no matter how good you think you are, you are only as safe as the most alert driver in that long line of cars, and as you know most non motorcycle riders are not alert to us.

Lots of us think the risk is acceptable, for the gains to be had.

I think it is PERFECTLY safe to ride through traffic within a certain speed differential. Which should be decided on a moment by moment basis. I have done it stupidly, and paid for it.

    So,
What have we learnt from this thread......
Do Not come on here and start a thread with "Crashed" anywhere in the title....

    Now, as for Lane splitting:
Yes, I have done it, but like Drew, stick to a speed differential, and also keep your situational awareness.
I think I lost interest when the OP didn't actually know where on the road they were when they got hit.

I may not be perfect, but that is one detail, out of about 50+ that I am constantly observing as I filter through traffic.
