Hey, thanks for the comments guys. Very useful
I am leaning toward some TCX X-5 (good price at present) or the Alpine Stars S-MX5.
I have got kiwi feet - are the Alpine Stars a reasonably wide fitting?

My pair leak in anything more than a shower or drizzle. This was pretty much from new.
My Daytonas were far superior, and when they finally did decide to let a bit of moisture in, they were relined for free via their after sales service.
That's all the help I can provide via personal experience.
Oh, and the Germans have a wider build than the Italians.
Because they were close to brand new when they emigrated with me.
I figured a change of hemispheres made the return to place of purchase financially unrealistic.
Yea, my alpine stars are pretty wide fitting. Like you I have wide feet, and I have no problems with sizing.
Also I've had 2 pair of them and neither have leaked (first pair got replaced by insurance after an off).
Are the SMX5 boots good for people with massive calves?![]()
Try some Rev'it boots if you get the chance. Had mine a couple of weeks and they are great. Comfy, waterproof and wide enough to fit a hobbit.
Grow older but never grow up
I'd recommend Skellerup if you've got that problem.
Think I have the previous version of those. Pretty much everyday wear. Comfortable enough for walking, and no wet feet on any length of ride. Sole started coming away but had that fixed. The only problem is the velcro is dead but I would buy the same pair again. Never worked out why they have that padding for the gear lever on both feet though, looks daft.
How about a turn around -
The boots I want to replace were bought from 1 Tonne just over three years ago. They are warm, comfortable and quite waterproof.
They have leaked - badly - once, in extreme conditions (shouldn't have been riding). Cost $145.
I now think I might buy same again
Don't know how good the protection is if you come off?
I have Berik GPX Waterproof race boots $300 a pop very comfy and well made... I have wide feet and they fit well.
I love my Alpinestars web gore-tex boots. Never had wet feet. Super comfortable from new, they feel like you're wearing slippers! Have lasted really well, 30k and counting with no issues. Velcro and zips still excellent. I had a pair of 1 tonne boots but would spend extra and buy the Alpinestars again if I was in the market for new ones.
