    One of the ironies is that the BMW boots he had on were the work supplied ones. They contained the injury, and prevented it from being worse. They got cut off.

    The BMW pants he had on also helped contain the nastiness, and cordura got embedded in the wound. They were also cut off.

    The rest of his gear was fine, and was all personally owned.

    Now, THAT's how to crash. Sacrifice all the company supplied gear, and protect your own.
