It was 20 years ago today...

    Let's revisit 1992 V 1982.

    1992 alternative comedy was...interesting.

Though a quick review indicates popular US music was mainly shite:

In the early eighties we were still getting over the 70's weirdness, but some of these are still on my playlists:

...in 1982 I was working on a semi sub in the North Sea, had money falling out my pockets...had been to most European circuits following the F1 or 500 GP bikes around the place...spent the rest of my time following motorcycle racing in all its forms around the UK...met Joey Dunlop on the Island but saw Dennis Ireland beat them all and I thought I might just stay over that way for the rest of my life...

...by 1992 a few wrong turns and a woman/wife that changed, or was it me, took most of what I had...she did not contest the ownership of my Triumph, which I suppose is one small mercy...

...I preferred the 1982 period, myself...

In 1982 i bought my first brand new bike, a Suzuki PE175Z.
At the time I was driving a 1966 Austin 1100, so I had my priorities right..

    In 1992 I traded my RMX250 on a YZ250WR - I loved both those bikes.
My car was better as well - I had a 1991 Peugeot 405SRI.

The 80's are a bit hazy for me.

But by the 90's it'd all got a bit blurry.

Oh, cars too - in '82 it was maybe an Austin 1800...if the Series II Oxford had died by then. Might also have been the CA Bedford with Vanguard 6 engine for bike transport, for the Bultaco 350....forgot to mention that.

In '92 I was back in an Austin 1800.

Music - in '82 we had a stereogram, you could stack records to get continuous play. Some LP's had 1 and 3 on one side, 2 and 4 on the other so it would go 1,2, then flip them for 3 and 4.

In '92 we were picking up old vinyl for 20 cents an LP, great times to expand the collection. We had a fancy machine with twin tape decks, so was a sort of recording studio - we could lay down tracks on one side of the tape, then do the other.

Was 6 years old in '82, riding my chrome all over banana seated bike with cool as ape hangers.

In 92, well at 16, I rode a 49.9cc Peugeot moped, and whatever else I could throw my leg over.

They were pretty ancient in '82. Notice I don't list anything new, I don't do that. We have to go all the way back to 1972 when I had a brand new Yamaha CT2 to find me with something up to date.

In '82 I turned 7. I remember being dragged along to horse shows, some of which were hours away. Bored on the trips my mother suggested I count horses I saw, I instead counted motorbikes.

In '92 I turned 17. School books were covered in drawings of bikes, had a black and white 14" TV in my bedroom to watch the GP500's battle, bike mags scattered around my room. In the garage I had an RM125 and was saving up for a GS850 one of my brothers friends had for sale (I eventually got it). We lived about 25km out of ChCh where I attended school, so blagged early morning rides to school on the back of my other brothers friends GSXR750. It meant I got to school at 7:45am, and winters were cold but it was worth every second of it.
