Paul Holmes and the like are not to be taken seriously nor should their opinions be taken as "gospel" . These guys are just actors fronting a show. They are their because they have the gift of the gab, are quick on their feet, are presentable and can portray an image of someone who knows what they are talking about. The problem is a lot of times they reach the point where they start manufacturing issues from nothing like that twat John Campbell and then sort of become the authority on that issue because they are the only ones who dreamed up a problem where their wasn't one in the first place.
Paul Holmes (and others) in a lot of peoples eyes is now someone whose opinions actually mean something because for years on TV he has nodded and "aha'd" and asked questions and argued to make himself seem like he knows what he is talking about, so when he says something that may offend someone they take it as a serious comment from someone who they deem as being in a position of authority. He isn't, he is an actor or presenter, thats all, nothing more.
No point being offended.

He showed his true colours with his first interview with Dennis Conner. I don't like Dennis but he had my full support that evening. Have avoided PH since wherever possible.
Holmes is also a frothing-at-the-mouth anti-gun campigner.

Its some sort of Narcissic behavior I just can't relate too, you suddenly find yourself influential (how the he'll did that happen) loads of cash, and true "celebrity status", something like Kelsey Grammer, totaling his new Porsche , Paul Holmes stacks his mega buck rare as hens teeth classic aircraft (twice in a month I believe). Then, to really show a Narcissic behavior, produces his own (terrible ) album (Christmas songs if memory serves me correct), my question is..... Why? Did some member of his family not quietly say " um Paul..... This is a bad idea, stick to TV" ? eh, it just sad, and almost embarrassing, except for the fact that, logically, no one purchased his terrible album. Hah!

Why did he make a xmas album? Its because that is how he earns a living, Paul Holmes is his product,his name is what he sells and the xmas album was just another way to leverage off his name. Not sure how much he earned, if any but thats how this celebrity thing works.

Why did he make a Christmas album, because in his Narcissisc haze, he honestly believed the NZ public wanted it, because, in reality, if he wanted to increase his public profile, he would have engaged the services of a P.R consultant, who, would have told him, "er, yea, let's wait on the album, and maybe just create a documentary for TVNZ about the history of Television on Kiwiland (or some such thing)
People might actually want to watch that.
Instead we got an autobiography (Tee Hee)and a fucking Christmas album. (Woot Woot)
