Hampton Nationals Onboard SV650

Had a shocker. Got clipped 3 times from behind. First time was poor Deano in practice. Second time was in race one (the race in the video) got my left bar taken out. Third time was in race two on the Sunday, nearly high sided out of turn one, which turned into a tank slapper and Ant Singer ran straight into the back of me so I at least partially to blame for that one. 4th gear corner (so it was quite fast, well over a 100kph).

Qualified first in Production Twin by over a second. Lost a second a lap from qualifying due to a poorly chosen tyre change (didn't have the advantage of more than one choice). Was sliding a lot and had to ride like it was wet. Early on the brakes, supersmooth settling into corners and early power out. Very frustrating as I love Hampton Downs. Despite the traction issues, was still in first place in both races when I crashed out. Running 2 seconds a lap slower than I did a couple of years ago in the races.

you were extremely early on the brakes when i clipped you in lap 2 at t2

why would you go to the front of the pit lane grid up for the practice/qualifying, when you were bedding your brakes in?

that is why i lunged out ahead of you, but even though i wasn't mucking about, you decided to come past me at turn 2, hard on the brakes - -that is a strange method of bedding brakes in

while i was wary of you in front of me for the first lap, you were still going pretty hard, again a strange was to bed in new brakes

then lap 2, first timed lap you braked well early at turn 2 - did you decide then to scrub the brakes lightly before braking hard for the turn ?

took me totally by surprise (and i still braked earlier than 'normal') but there was no way i could avoid the mobile chicane that you made yourself

while i appreciate you apologising to my wife after the incident (appearing to me to be an at least part admission of fault) - 7 days in hospital and wrecking my chances of a national title has made me a little bitter - more so than the fairly serious injuries i sustained

my thoughts have also been confirmed by several others who have been involved with you in on track incidents

I'm saddened that you feel bad blood towards me. Arguing with you about fault isn't going to improve your perception of me. So I wish you all the best and hope to see you out there again soon, unless you feel that I am a significant safety threat to you on the track?

I still intend to race at Paeroa and Hampton Downs Nationals and maybe Taupo Nationals next year. This year I've only got a motard endurance race lined up with a friend at Taupo in about June, (never raced a motard before).

Was running well used SC0 Pirellis in qualifying, and then went to [brand name withheld] medium compounds which just didn't do me any favours.

I used a SC1 at Taupo last weekend and chewed it out. Made some small changes to the shock and made a difference to the tyre use! In the wrong way that is. I had been using a SC2 prior and felt alot better on it, though that may be the changes to the shock. Will post a pick of how it ended up after the 3rd race.

i did need to get that off my chest jason, perhaps it was part of the healing process.

you yourself told my wife afterwards that it was the second time it has happened and that maybe you needed to change your riding style.

in any case, i do think you need to reconsider going to the front of the field for a practice/qualifying session when bedding in your brakes.

it is not too dissimilar to staying on track on a race line if having an issue with your bike i.e potentially dangerous
