Was thinking about going for a bit of ride down there to watch the racing.
I'm keen to head down reasonably early in the day if there is a bit of a group going.
I'm definetely going if the weather is OK. Metservice says there's meant to be rain on Saturday.
So I'm thinking that I might leave Christchurch at 0900 and take the "scenic" route there via Darfield, Glentunnel and the Rakaia Gorge which is a slight detour.

Anyone keen?
Planning on this as well. Where'd ya want to meet?
You only need two tools in life:
Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't.
WD-40 if it doesn't move and it should.
Brute force and ignorance always prevails.
Failure comes from too little brute force, or
too little ignorance.
Maybe Hornby/Yaldhurst area seeing it's on the way there.
Works for me - I'm on Springs Road anyway - meet at the Yaldy?

'tis fine for me as well, I'm about 5 minutes from the Yaldy.
Err weather dependant though. Don't like getting too wet![]()
Good route, we went down one year via old westcoast road and cut in at racecourse hill, were on trail bikes but ya can come out at sheffield on road bikes and connect onto the same back road that goes to coalgate, bit more interesting that way, less traffic and cops. Discovered why they gave windwhistle its name![]()
So do we want to leave at 9 or 8 given it's 90 minutes ride at least and the racing starts at 9.30? I suppose there won't be much missed in the first hour but...

If anyone is keen to meet up I will be at Caltex on the corner of Russley Rd and Yaldhurst Rd on Saturday for a 0900 departure. I plan on going via Darfield and Windshistle on this route here http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=ch...via=1&t=m&z=10
If anyone is keen to go then meet just before 0900. If the weather is bad then I will take the short way via SH1 and Rakaia.
