    More money than sense

Given the strength of the Aussie dollar the amount of money that they charge for new bikes (and cars) over there is bloody obscene

I honestly don't understand why people put up with it

    They sure are.

    Example:

    New Triumphs in Au.

    http://www.bikesales.com.au/showroom...FUJMpgodGm5QZw

    Second hand Triumphs in NZ.

    http://www.motorcycletrader.co.nz/Us...x?N=4294967259

and the petrol is cheaper and wages generally higher.

One of my Wife's best friends from school days has had enough of Christchurch and flies out to Brisbane tomorrow for good, along with her daughter and son-in-law. After living their entire lives in Chch they can't take anymore and said the city has no life left in it. The CBD is like Cheynobel (sp?). They had work but lots of people they know can't find work and the shakes just keep coming. Damn shame.

Car prices are higher because there are no grey imports - manufacturing industry is tariff protected.
New bike prices are 10-20% less.
Cost of living (at the supermarket checkout) is noticable less here - with a few exceptions.
Seafood in Brisbane is on par with NZ. Pub steaks aren't.

And if you want to build a proper hot-rod (or seriously modified car) that you would like to use on a daily basis? - forget it!

And guns - espacially ones that fire a bullet with each crank on the trigger? forget that idea too.

Even Aussie bike journos have referred to Orstreylia as 'beige' - and that's comparing it to NZ!!!

Depends where on the continent you are. Not far north of me is quite like Northland.
