There is a BIG difference between self preservation and being an idiot like you. To self preserve is to take all safety aspects seriously and ride safely not all over the road like a fuckin moron. If you read my earlier post you will see that I have nothing against riding side by side, but only when safe to do so. Riding all over the road just so other road users have to slow down and can't safely pass you, which incidentally what you are promoting is called being a fuckwit. And your attitude is certainly not helping your cause.
I've spent my money on bikes, booze and babes. The rest I've wasted....
Some interesting bits from the NZTA road code for cyclists...
•If the road is too narrow to safely allow vehicles to pass, you are in danger of being run off the road or hit by a passing car. In this situation it is acceptable to move further out into the path of traffic to prevent other users from passing you. If you do have to move further out, remember to find a gap, signal your intentions and move across when it is safe. Once you have moved out try to ride as quickly as you can and allow the following traffic to pass when the road widens.
•There must never be more than two cyclists cycling next to one another. When the road is narrow or vehicles cannot pass, everyone should cycle in single file.
•When following a vehicle, you must have enough clear space to stop, should the vehicle in front stop suddenly. The exception is where cyclists are participating in council-approved cycle events that allow cyclists to closely follow one another (typically referred to as ‘drafting’ or ‘paceline cycling’). When riding closely, any sudden movements by any cyclist in the paceline can result in serious crashes. A good way to tell if you are leaving a safe distance between you and the cyclist in front is to use the two second rule, described in the box below.
So taking the lane is acceptable when necessary, don't ride 2 abreast if you're getting in the way, and most interestingly, bunch riding is a no-no except for council-approved events.
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

I did mean bunch. Peloton is the main bunch in a cycle race. I was referring to the whole bunch of cyclists 'together' whether they be in the Peloton, the breakaway bunch or the lead or tail riders. When a group get together for there ride, no matter how they are spaced out when you come across them, then their behaviour is worse than when they are alone. Peloton also implies race which in turn means closed or at least warnings on the public roads, this bitch is about how they fail to share the road with the motorised public when the road hasn't been 'booked' for them.
From what I have read on KB I would believe you on your similarity with group rides however so far all the group rides I have been on have been well behaved and respected other road users.
Good on the bus driver.
Bear in mind the cyclist was doing nothing wrong.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?
Hmm sounds like the subject cyclist failed to give 3 second hand signal before pulling out to pass his mate to me.
Nobody is having a dig at all cyclists but he should be looking after his own best interests by looking before pulling out.
I got a guy that rides down my street using the whole lane slowing traffic and abusing anyone that trys to get past him.
Guess EVERY type of road user has a few FORKwits that let the rest down and give others a bad name in the process. We have a few ourselves.
I have evolved as a KB member. Now nothing I say should be taken seriously.
I have fuckall time for cyclists - the eat a decent portion of ACC costs, but they pay zero levies.
They pay no taxes or charges to use the road, where we get raped on both fuel costs with their ridiculously high tax content, as well as hugre rego costs, then these cunts, who seldom have lights and never indicate their intentions, ride two abreast, or weave all over the fucking road like they own it, then have the audacity to act indignant as though they have a greater right than me to be there.
Im fine with cyclists who are courteous, and accept that more often than not, they are an impedance to the flow of traffic, and make every effort to stay far far left, indicate their intentions, and generally acknowledge that they are on a road that vehicles are PAYING to be on and display courtesy in accordance with that understanding.
I have on occasion been known to scoot past and deal out a hefty wallop to the backside of cyclists who seem to either TRY to be arseholes, or are just too ignorant to pay attention to legitimate road users. Fuck 'em.
Excuse us... We probably have paid more toward the road than you son..... 5 Road registered vehicles in the shed... Grow up and pay your dues before the flame war starts...
Next time you are out on your faviourite track beware of a 12 tonne tractor around that blind bend...... Yup, they will get out of your way real fast.... NOT!!!
