It's the old story alright, Government is supposedly here to serve the people (in a democracy) but all too often they get very off track.
We're already on a tax-per-person basis but they just keep coming up with more categories to tax us on personally.
A massive EMP event that would destroy all electronic records and abilty to create them is probably the only real answer because voting certainly doesn't work.
Its the casual off roaders that cost ACC so much. The guys that do half a dozen rides a year and break bones half a dozen times a year
ACC should be on a per person basis, you should list your hobbies, motorcycling/skydiving etc and should only be able to make claims for injuries caused doing your listed hobbies! This way you are paying for your personal ACC insurance! Items outside these might be covered but with a corresponding hike in your levies for the following year?

government for the people, by the people etc etc. You must be joking.
Sorry but I tend to agree with this guy
And given he quotes the English PM as well he isn't just talking about NZ though he does sum us up withOriginally Posted by http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/culture/6742579/Gordon-McLauchlan-produces-Passionless-People-sequel
Particularly the bit about painting the roof, I guess with us its go for a ride.Under such politicians, McLauchlan believes, New Zealand has become "a broken country, and no-one wants to fix it". And New Zealanders have lapsed "into a lack of passion bordering on inertness". If a New Zealander feels a bout of passion coming on, "he goes and paints a roof".
I bypassed joking and went to sarcasm: "supposedly etc".
However, there's certainly a different breed (loose terminology) in Parliament these days and more's the pity.
As for "go for a ride" don't forget: Or putting rego on hold or not paying it, which at least is something.

Oh well, looks like someone will have their mountain bike confiscated for throwing a tantrum![]()
I've spent my money on bikes, booze and babes. The rest I've wasted....
just petty, further reinforces the fact that cyclists are ghey!
what happened to sorting stuff out ourselves without cops being involved?
I would have happily joined in fisticuffs if it was me!
Viva La Figa
My point exactly, but only small hikes in levies for each "dangerous" activity but substantial hikes after hospital visits that way those of us that can operate a trail bike and stack every now and then (everyone comes off occasionally) wont be lumped in with these guys that can't ride and think there Crusty Demons or whatever. Basicly if someone is at the hospital once a month because of injury (and not illness) then I think their ACC levies should be far higher than someone like myself that has never in my life been admitted to hospital.
Some people are too stupid for society, why should I have to pay extra cos some asshole doesn't understand how to keep themselves safe. I believe we are breeding these people and they will become more and more common as a result of society removing all the ways they can kill themselves along the way, OSH and medical science have gone too far and ruled out Darwinism and it costs the rest of us to look after these idiots
