New brakes

So I just got some new brakes on my hyobag. They were almost down to the metal on replacement..oops!

The new brakes however sound like shit upon movement, just constant rubbing, sounds like it is metel on metal, I've had the brakes replaced when I first bought the bike. I don't remember them sounding like shit.
And also I need to squeeze the brake lever a lot for the brake to actually work...is this normal for new brakes and will it come right or does this sound like a f**kup

Brake PADS, not BRAKES. Did you fit them yourself?

When you fitted the pads I assume you pushed the calipers back?

Also, make sure your breake fluid resovoir is not overfill.

sounds like either to much brake fluid in the system keeping the calipers under pressure. Or does your bike have the two pistion sliding calipers if so check that the sliding pins are free not siezed as these will hold one of the pads hard against the disk.

as a side note when you say the pads where a little low when you replaced them they didn't get to metal to metal? if they did the noise is the rough surface of the disk grinding the new pads away, new disks are the only way to fix this or just get use to the noise.

Sounds like the mastercylinder is overfull not alowing full retraction of pads.
Also possible that they arnt even on the discs.I normally set mine up with plastic icecream lid plastic between disc and pads(both sides).Then squeeze them up after removing the plastic so that inner and outer pad move in equal distance.Not all bike self align pads very well.
Also sinter pads will sound a bit rough for a fair few km untill they bed in.
Try checking if when you squeeze brakes that the disc doesnt flex in or out.that would indicate stuck pot or poor set up.

There's some good advice above, however I am going to ask one question, which might indicate why it is requiring a lot of pressure on the lever to get the brakes to work
you DID use cleaner on the pistons and removed all the crud before pushing them back in to allow the new pads to fit?? if not, you may now have jammed up pistons!

Hey sorry, forgot to check the post.

I had the garage replace them during the service.
They cleaned them all out and replaced a piston cause it was corroding.
Haven't checked the brake fluid yet I shall do that tonight.

Hi there, if your discs are worn (not completely flat where the pads work), then the new pads are probably only touching on the high spots at the moment. If this is the case they should settle in over time and use. Which should be fine as long as they're (the discs) not completely poked. Then you'd be up for replacements. Good luck anyway, Cheers.
