Plenty of good info around on self hypnosis. It really is a mind thing, be aware of your self talk around the subject of smoking, just from your post I can tell you are still focused on smoking, rather than being smokefree.

Forget all the pills, patches, books, hypnotists and other assorted crap.

Forget all the "tries" and "attempts". They will all fail - 100%.

You will give up smoking when you decide that you're not going to smoke again. Once you make that leap of logic, it will suddenly be so much easier - the cravings will reduce, and the situations that might lead you smoke again won't seem so daunting.

It's 60% psychological. Get your head around that, and it's a piece of cake from there.

It's up to YOU to give up. Do you want to or not? I don't think you do - prove me wrong, why don't you?

Speaking from a position of "been there, done that & got the t-shirt" type fing sorta fing!

I gave up smoking on the 9th of Feb 2000, never had one since nor have I been even close to it.

I was told by my boss at the time I had to have my subconscious mind believe I was a non smoker. How does one do this? Self talk. It took months of consciously telling myself I was a non smoker. My "mantra" was "i'm a non smoker & I feel GREAT!". Sounds a bit mad for those that aren't aware of "cognitive dissonance". I would also reaffirm all of the negative things about smoking. All of this takes place 99% of time quietly in ones own head, self talk. You just go about your daily life & when ever the thought pops into your head you take charge of that thought & repeat the mantra. I was told to continue smoking & one day I would just stop. Well that's exactly what happened. On a flight from Perth to Melbourne, 10mins into it I suddenly looked up from the magazine I was reading & said to myself...........today is the day. Many hours later I landed in Melbourne, threw half a pack into the bin & haven't had one since. I used patches for half a day (12hrs) for 3 days then threw the rest of those in the bin also. I was in smokey pubs & didn't even crave a smoke! Why? Because as far as my subconscious was/is concerned................I'M A NON SMOKER & I FEEL GREAT!!!

ps: cognitive dissonance <---- The subconscious mind cannot hold a conflicting thought

To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. On the count of 3 you'll electronically transfer $1,000 to my bank account.

If that works, I'll cure your smoking habit.

There is a Psychics Fair advertised on the hoardings around here currently.
Somewhat disappointed that it advertises the time and date.
'You know where' would have been better. AT least one every other sign.

Hypnotherapist worked for me. 25 years ago - was a packet on Winnie Blues a day - we all were - 1 visit, haven't had a gasper since.

I was a bit of a skeptic up until I watched my extremely homophobic ex bf running round hugging any male that was in reach after Mr Hypnotist did his thing (I know him well, and there is no way you could have talked him into doing this). There were 6 other people I knew that same night that Mr Hypnotist managed to get to do all kinds of weird shit. Talking to them afterward they all swear by the same thing. They know what they are doing but they have no control. They just couldn't not do what he said. In saying that, hypnotists can't work with/for everyone as was shown. He worked with the whole crowd and about half he would have been able to work with. I also now know someone who was previously a pack a day smoker. Nothing was working for him and I mentioned using a hypnotist to him. He didn't like the idea of someone "messing with his head." In the end he went ahead with it and it was the best thing he ever did for himself. Hasn't had the urge since. If it works, why not?

I couldn't wait to get outside and have a smoke after going to the hypnotist.Did not work for me, but my father who smoked 60 a day for 40+ yrs stopped after his first visit, and has not had one for 17 yrs. Different strokes/ for different folks I guess.

    That,s it all right there.

After 23 years (36 at the time) I gave up, cold turkey because i wanted to.
Biggest thing i found to break was the habit not the addiction.
First smoke in the morning, one after dinner where the ones i missed the most.

The big one is don't buy any, if you have got them you don't smoke.
For the first month try and change your routine so you forget your habit.
As for the addiction part just ride it out. My family gave me lots of support even from being a right grumpy twat as i was for a good reason.

Even now there are times when i go to get my smokes and remember I don't smoke and wish I still did but they are getting less.

Good luck Your family will need it
