You will give up smoking when you decide that you're not going to smoke again. Once you make that leap of logic, it will suddenly be so much easier - the cravings will reduce, and the situations that might lead you smoke again won't seem so daunting.
It's 60% psychological. Get your head around that, and it's a piece of cake from there.

Speaking from a position of "been there, done that & got the t-shirt" type fing sorta fing!
I gave up smoking on the 9th of Feb 2000, never had one since nor have I been even close to it.
I was told by my boss at the time I had to have my subconscious mind believe I was a non smoker. How does one do this? Self talk. It took months of consciously telling myself I was a non smoker. My "mantra" was "i'm a non smoker & I feel GREAT!". Sounds a bit mad for those that aren't aware of "cognitive dissonance". I would also reaffirm all of the negative things about smoking. All of this takes place 99% of time quietly in ones own head, self talk. You just go about your daily life & when ever the thought pops into your head you take charge of that thought & repeat the mantra. I was told to continue smoking & one day I would just stop. Well that's exactly what happened. On a flight from Perth to Melbourne, 10mins into it I suddenly looked up from the magazine I was reading & said to myself...........today is the day. Many hours later I landed in Melbourne, threw half a pack into the bin & haven't had one since. I used patches for half a day (12hrs) for 3 days then threw the rest of those in the bin also. I was in smokey pubs & didn't even crave a smoke! Why? Because as far as my subconscious was/is concerned................I'M A NON SMOKER & I FEEL GREAT!!!

ps: cognitive dissonance <---- The subconscious mind cannot hold a conflicting thought
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded
