    Suzuki sepia variator

I need to get into the variator to replace some broken variator clips but I can't get past the nut in the picture. Because it's on the crank shaft the whole thing turns when you try to loosen it.. I have tried everything I can think of. Are there any tricks to immobilizing the crank shaft?
    Can anyone help me?

    Cheers

Pretty sure the only method is to use an impact wrench. Some variators have holes to attach a bar that than be braced against something (ground, scooter frame, etc) but without that, pretty sure its impact wrench time, or find a way to rig some type of strap wrench to the outside of the variator.

Ive never done it yet and want to swap out the rollers soon. let us know how things go.

    Impact wrench
or ......Hammer ( get a good ring spanner , ring end onto nut ,hold it hard on there , and with large dead blow hammer or something like that ...need the mass , twat the open ended side of the ring spanner , )

if u are using a cloth to hold the variator still the nut will come loose ,,,2 people makes it easy

Yea I got an impact driver off my mate and it did what it was supposed to do and got the nut undone straight away which was a relief. One thing to watch out for though is that I got caught by not having a long enough socket, the normal length sockets do not reach over the end of the crank shaft, so make sure you have a long reach one. After that everything just slides off easy enough.

What I usually do is wedge a large screwdriver in the teeth on the starter ring gear. This usually works very well and doesn't seem to damage anything.
