What a wonderful day. Weather was fantastic, revenue gatherers were forgiving (or quickly forgotten) and the turnout was great. Good to meet a few more of the crowd I hadn't met before.

I finally did some decent damage to the tyres (although I still rate as a pussy), and from quick analysis of the video I don't think I cracked any better than a 26. Still, I rode it home in one piece so that's all good. I'll leave the unlucky to write their own analysis.

And who the hell let that chick into the novice category? If I was not ashamed to be in intermediate, she shoulda had a red tag on.

Great weather, and great turn out of KBers.
I was pretty damn exhausted, so only went out a few times. My tyres didnt seem to like the hot track and were sliding all over the show. Did some nice wheelies, and went round and round, so in all.. a good day.

Well that was a weekend and a harf! Auckland (Northshore too) to Palmy on track and all the way back nearly 1400kms all up. I'm shagged. Me and Slob slunk down to PN on Saturday, overnighted with Tony and Co and Warren and partner. (Sorry about shouting obscenities in my sleep BTW).

Track day itself was excellent, great weather and quite a technical (i.e curvy) track. The yzf did well, in a straight line nothing special, but man those brakes were awesome. Touched right hand peg down a coupla times and broke in a pair of knee sliders so I don't look like a complete nana now. I was jealous as hell of the guys on the big bikes pulling wheelies here and there, that MV f41000 rocked!

After session ended, headed back up North and got lost, ended up going through Wanganui, then up the 4 (nice road but don't crash cos out there no one can hear you scream, as in the middle of no where), very nearly ran out of fuel buying some from a dude in a cafe, and overnighted in Raetihi (damn that's a quiet little village). Up early this morning and made good progress back to Auckers making it home by 2pm. Slob and I crossed paths a couple of times too.

Cheers to Tony, to Slob and to the dude (Fred) who sold me the petrol and prevented me from having to kip in the bush last night.

Oh BTW, Warren, 3 seconds mate!

    You'll keep !!!!

Well surprised I havent read about my miss-adventure already..
Clare myself and pack left Hams at 10am.
Stopped at Tekuiti Bosco Cafe, always a good stop.
Was just getting my helmit on and 3 bikes went past heading south. So caught up with them and followed at pace.
Just before Taumarunui felt something move... rear tyre something... thought Clare must be moving around. Well stopping would have been sensible!!
Carried on sweet... got to Owhango and Clare alerts me to the fact that there is NO pack on the back!!
Arr I know knew what was going on before Taumarunui.
So retrace our ride going way past where things started to happen... and then returned to Taumarunui. Saw nothing, pearing over the banks where where was no fence.
So persuaded the Police Station to open and filled out a lost prop. report.
And continued on our way.. woth only the clothes we were wearing. Got to the motel and Lyn leant us her car and was off to the Warehouse for essentuals.
Had a good feed with slob, frosty, Lyn and Alan, swanman was in the next bar.
Accomodation was good but the dam blackbirds were up at 3.30am!! I think the boy races must have woken them.
Well off to the track where the XJ was dealt to in a big way. Towards the end the FJR1300 and the big BMW's had retired so felt pretty good with my pace and the only things that got the better of me were the racing 250's?? and a Yamaha Genisis. Seemed to be dispatching most else. .. but I was in the yellow group!!
The tyres sure looked well used after each session.
Were going to head north with swanman, but I think he missed the first right/hander which takes you northwards. Sounds like it wasnt the only right/hander he missed!! Good he didnt end up in New Plymouth. What can I say.. sure it might be only 3 seconds but if you are heading the wrong direction....
Still he probably got home with his kit... better keep quiet
Fot us was a night in Taupo, got there at 6.30 and left 9.30 am, stop in Tirau and home at 12. Great outing all round.
    Catch everyone next time perhaps!

It can't have been MD ... He said it was way too windy for that kind of stunt .... Both he and Dion were firing off some great wheelies in that last session .... and then just for good measure Dion gave the MV a heart-warming rolling burn-out and he & Mark stoppied before retiring for the day ... Bloody brilliant it was too !! ...

Next time I will can the golf and go riding ... I know where I'll have more fun .....

Man, I though Manfeild would be a bit more 'trustworthy' but it's almost as bad as the Rimutakas surface-wise! Learnt lots of interesting stuff today. And yay Jane and Mark for bringing up another 250 to join the field! I thought there would be a few more of us though.

And thanks heaps KR!!! What an awesome toy! Man you fellas were trusting - hope you didn't eat your words when I locked up the back in the corner! Heh heh. Mmmmmm - very, very nice though.
    Damn we should have stayed!
    That's soooooo cool, well deserved

Cool Motoracer's stunt double's account of the trip

Well, that sure was a fun weekend, although having just hopped off the bike about 3 hours ago I'm just starting to feel the repercussions! The trip to Palmy Nth and back was the longest journey that I've done so far on a bike and I must say that the route you take has a profound effect on how long the trip feels - me and Swanman headed towards P Nth mostly via SH1, which was straight and monotonous (the detour down 34 was great though). On the way back I decided to go via Ohakune-Te Kuiti-Otorohanga-Ngarawahia ending up in the (in)famous SH22. Now that route was a blast! I hardly noticed the time flash by. Had a few lucky breaks too e.g. passing an oncoming HP car while doing X00kmph and not seeing any flashing lights in the mirror!

The track day itself was quite a revelation. On the first lap I was feeling quite disappointed with the track surface (dirt, patches and bumps galore!), but I gradually started to ignore those little imperfecions and get on with my riding. I don't think I ever figured out the correct lines for most of those corners but hey, at least I had fun! I also lost count of the number of times I was approached by KBers who started chatting to me thinking I was MotoRacer (I had his leathers on)! It was actually an elaborate plan to deceive MR's competition into thinking that he'd forgotten how to ride! It was great to meet all the KBers that I did meet and I'm sorry I didn't seek out the rest of those that were there - I was a bit preoccupied at the time, thinking about my riding, setup etc. I guess.

Finally, I'd like to thank Frosty for organising the special deal that we got and for the hospitality that he showed by letting me crash on his spare bed. Cheers to Swanman for keeping me company on the way down (bugger about your trip back - sounds like it was an adventure though). It was also great to hang out with Warr and Clare, Hooks and family and AJTurbo too!

Well..... when some luverly manufacturer offers me a brand new CBR600RR, R6 or GSXR600, full training to sort out what I'm actually doing out there, a 34 strong pit crew (including brolly boys ), mechanical upkeep, to pay off my student loan, and $46,000 per year to buy nice things out of shiney bike catalogues, then I might be able to race one.

It was a bit of a change from the old 250 (no offence little bub)! But heaps of fun!!!! Wish I knew a bit more about it though cause from the looks of this months mag it looks like it's got a pretty flash suspension setup! But coming from a 250 I just noticed the basic stuff. Like acceleration - mmmmmm. I found out that I couldn't slow down like I do with my bike though - I usually don't brake that much but just bang down through the gears but it wasn't so pretty doing that on the R6. I got my first checkered flag too. (except there was no-one else out there.) Ohhh - I want a 600!!! No - the Jade is fine. I'm all good. (She keeps telling herself, rocking in the corner in foetal position casting nervous glances at inanimate objects.)

Btw - that whole Motoracer thing threw me a bit too. I thought - that guy looks a little bit like Sudeep, and then someone (VTWIN I think) said that he was behind someone on the track with 'Motoracer' on their leathers, and I thought a bit bad that I hadn't recognised him straight away. Playing with my mind I tell you! Triksy little Orklanders!
