How intelligent are these robots? Could they, for instance, be taught to cook and pick the kids up from school?

    That's the general idea.

Niche market only. I don't see prostitutes being replaced by machines anytime soon. The rest of us however...

One problem they have is they'd have to be perfect. Perfect imperfect looks, right temp, correct feel, sounds, movements etc, etc, etc Anything less & they won't work.
Humans are alright if they have human features but don't look human or are perfect replications (extremely hard to do) however we are creeped out by things that look human but somethings not quite right "The Uncanny Valley" (1st half explains it)

Don't they already do that over the phone, web cam, chat, etc?

Why not? If they can jack you off and do all sorts of kinky things, other simple chores like picking up the kids and cooking is no big deal...

They're talking about the sex trade, where women are treated like pieces of meat and basically ARE sex robots... If you want a real person to engage intercourse with, find a girlfriend, not a prostitute.

"Game Over" will be the hardest words to hear... So in this case, is 'group sex' a bunch of sex robots networked together?

If the methodical/mechanical acting and body modifications of porn actresses are anything to judge by, then there isn't much further to go to achieve those qualities.
In fact, perhaps robot companions can be programmed to be your perfect partner, never arguing, always willing, etc.

Thanks Scube (annoying voice over though). The whole robot/human topic is very interesting.
