    Fake Telecom Email?

Hi all, not sure if this has been posted... but I've just logged in to my email account and found an email from Telecom offering to double my broadbandad titled "We're increasing your broadband". Now it looks like it's from telecom, it contains my home phone number and my (yet to be confirmed) Telecom account number, but it feels wrong somehow.

When I scroll over the links, none of them point to telecom.co.nz, but to some other URL a.smartmailpro.com/bullshit characters.

Either way, it may be worth watching out for this.

RESULT: It's legit. Nothing to see here, move along... and if it isn't it's gonzo's fault
    I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!

    Received one too.

Judging from this on the Telecom website, I would say it is highly likely a legitimate email.

It's a big increase too - the data allowance for most of our current Total Home packages will double throughout April and May 2012. We'll be writing to all of our Total Home customers during April with more details about when they will receive the increase.

It may be genuine as Telecom is about to do just this. Takes effect from 1 May from memory. No change in plan or fees but double the cap. However, if the email is asking you to sign up to anything or provide any info etc, then remain suspicious, as you won't have to do anything for the genuine one. It'll just happen, and you should just be advised.

Do the links in your email go to "telecom.co.nz" or to "a.smartmailpro.com/bullshit characters"...

Looks like the deal is real, just curious about the links in the email.

Looks real to me and I clicked on the links and they went to telecom. More real than the paypal phishing email i got, clicked on that link and it went to a page that looked a lot like the real thing but url looked dodgy.

sent it to paypal so wioll see.

Kiwi email marketing company with new Zealand 's largest telecommunications companiy as a client. Sounds legit to me.

According to their website at least.

Telecom are making an increase in your broadband at "no extra cost." We received a letter via post in regards to this about 3 days ago.

Phone them anyway though, they'll want to look into it if its not legit.

Cool. When you highlight over the links in the mail, does the tooltip at the bottom of your browser point to telecom.co.nz?

That's what I'm trying to find out. Currently everything's looking positive, but the links just don;t look right at all. It says telecom.co.nz/moredata on the page, much like the link Ender posted, but in the tooltip thingymajog it points to "a.smartmailpro.com/blah blah blah"
