The K4 was a waste of time I reckon. The K5/6 was their best effort.

hows that 300cc kit going? ordered? in the mail?
    Cheers bro
    Kit's in the mail.
Once the standard gasket set arrives (new barrel piston has a kit as it's 78mm vs 72 lol) I'll be seeing how much room I have between valve and piston, then I'm hoping to machine the base of the barrel, slot the cam gear and look in to getting teh cam re-ground will be double valve springs if that happens, standard ones are rather hopeless and probably rooted (haven't measured 'em yet)

waste of time, no - its a good solid engine, and a decent bike, but despite that, it pales in comparison to how great of the bike the K5 was - a massive upgrade and im fairly sure it was about then the (stock) gsxr overtook the R1 in almost (if not all) areas. Dont think the R1 quite caught up since them. That said - any bike is only a few mods by a loving owner away from being a fuckin monster anyway!

Sorta didn't make myself clear. The K3/4 is only marginally better than the K1/2, where the K5/6 LEAPS ahead.

Great bike for sure, but it is the ugly one too.

They were streaks ahead of the R1 from day 1, in every area. They may well have seen the release of the R1 and spent two years developing a better machine, but it was two years spent very bloody well indeed.

Bring this thread back to the Dougcati SS!

Hopefully when I get back from my wee holiday there will be a new tail light.
I'm going to fab up a very small pipe bender as I have a sweet idea for mounting it.

How small a pipe bender? I have one that goes down to 1/4 inch pipe. That's PIPE! Research it to find out why it work work for 1/4 inch tube.
