    Internet gurus?

I’m having extreme slow speed problems.
64kbps down load to be exact.

Modem, PC etc have been reset.
The internet here just went “phut” and it’s uber slow, so slow and gay it won’t load these pages properly so I am typing this shit on MS word the copy/pasting it.

    The ADSL status info is:

    ADSL Firmware Version: 5.00.04.00 - 5.00.03.00 - 5.00.03.00 Annex A - 01.07.2b - 0.52 ADSL
    Software Version: V3.00B01T01.TX.20060516
    Line state Connected
    Modulation ADSL_G.dmt
    Annex Mode ANNEX_A
    Max Tx Power -38 dBm/Hz

    SNR Margin
    11 dB downstream
    12 dB Upstream

    Line Attenuation
    63 downstream
    31 dB Upstream

    Data Rate
    64 downstream kbps
    448 Upstream kbps

WTF could be going on here? Telecon aren’t being helpful in the least.
A while back I was getting a hugely beige 1mbps speed, which is…okay I suppose.
    This is just retarded.

I hear tell of a virtual land in which they are aplenty. What makes this one different is they are all animated .gif's.

That downstream line attenuation is pretty terrible, did you mention it to Telecom when you called?.. I'd expect them to send out a Chorus tech to check out your cabinet/house and do a line test with that kind of attenuation.
Having said that, the fact that it's connected at exactly 64kbps almost certainly means you've exceeded your data cap and been limited down to 64kbps, at which point the internet does tend to be pretty much unusable.

Just got off the phone to Telecon.
The tech chap said that the attenuation was fairly high, I agreed
    Data cap hasn't been exceeded.
I'll be getting a newer modem, this one's about 700000000 years old and only DSL1 so he said I may see some improvement with DSL2 compatibility or something of the sort?
If a new modem/filters doesn't fix it, they will send a line tech fellow out.

My upload has dropped to 350kbps after he reset the connection at the exchange (or something...)

what he said.. except that if it was data cap it would be 64/64.

10 gets you 20 its a line fault.. faulty joint, connector, jackpoint, or cable pair.

If it's consistently connecting at 64kbps every time you reconnect, it seems fairly likely it's due to the throttling system. If you haven't exceeded your cap, it's possible your ISPs automated system is malfunctioning, so if you call them again, you might want to mention it to them and get them to make sure that isn't the case.

As far as the new modem goes, the version of ADSL is unlikely to make any difference to this specific problem unless there's an issue with the DSLAM in your cabinet, but it is possible your old modem is just giving up the ghost, and either way, an ADSL2+ compatible modem should allow better speeds if you're not too far from the cabinet.

as I said, it wont be cap unless its 64/64 - they dont limit one way.

ADSL2 modem might help - some of them deal with line issues better than others.. but he still needs to get his line fixed.

They don't rate limit the the sync speed to the cpe, thats all done at the isp,. Agree with the comment around line fault or similar.

I guess you'll be going back to loading pr0ns on a 28kbs modem eh?

Even if your computer is not at fault, I'd be doing a full malware check on all computers, to see what kinds of nasties have invaded your firewall. Some of the pesky blighters use your connection to download more of themselves, so it pays to get rid of them while you can.

Boot off a live Linux disc and see if that helps. It probably won't, but it can't hurt to try.
