What an awesome weekend. The last round of the Pacific club, Bikerider Summer series and we had some amazing weather to finish the series off too with absolutely no issues with the bikes or the bus - the whole weekend. The track day went well on the Saturday getting in heaps of riding time and some cool shots on my new GoPro. I was having some problems with grip after a few laps out each session which was a bit of a worry for Sundays racing.
Sunday , ProTwin was last up and I wasn’t sure whether I would handle running two classes but I decided to qualify for
Asian Bikes anyway. 1.22.0 gave me 18th on the grid and 7th in AB’s which was okay after a scare when my tether switch
came off slightly and shut the bike down, leaving me clueless...
ProTwin qualify went better with a 1.20.6 putting me 8th on the grid and 3rd in the class behind Peter Robson.
I raced in the first two of the AB races struggling for grip and finishing in 7th place both times.
The first ProTwin race, I had a great start going through turn one in 4th place and holding onto Zane up until Dunlop coming onto the front straight when he got away from me. I set my Personal Best of 1.19.041 on the second lap, and then ended up slowing down a second due to the lack of grip I was getting. I finished 2nd for ProTwin and 6th in the race after Mark Boyes made his way past.
Race two, I had another good start but watch Paul Buckley run around the outside, putting me in 5th coming out of turn one. Mark made his way past me on the exit of Dunlop as I lost both the front and rear one after the other but somehow kept it going with a super wide line, then Peter made a pass on the entry to Dunlop in lap two. I followed behind him making sure he didn’t get too far away, but not pushing too hard that I’d lose the bike. The white flag came out and I made my pass on the brakes coming into turn one. Again I finished 2nd and 6th for the race.
Race three, pretty much ran along the same lines, Mark got passed on the exit of turn one on lap 2 but I wasn’t too worried because of my grip situation, as long as it wasn’t another ProTwin. Peter was trying his best to make a pass but couldn’t quite make one stick. A couple more F3 bikes went past and I finished in 2nd and 8th for the race.
I had a great weekend with some awesome racing and really beautiful weather which really topped off a fantastic season on the new bike. I finished the series in 1st place which was awesome!! I really hope that we can make the changes we need to make and keep on riding throughout the winter and hopefully keep myself on the podium.
Huge Thanks to, Baycad Services, Hyosung NZ and Burrell Signs for everything they have done and are doing to help us out and make us look good. And of course Thanks to Mum and Dad for all their support and help all round with our racing.
