    Repainting Ventura pack rack?

My ventura pack rack has a few rust spots on it and the paint is flakey in some areas, I'm wanting to repaint it but have no experience with this sort of thing.

From what I assume, I will need to sand it, get rid of the rust spots, prime it and then spray on a few coats of paint?

Any tips or is it pretty straightforward?

    Cheers

I sand blasted mine, and have it powder coated in a colour of my choice, which isn't black.

If I was to try to do it all at home, where I don't have a sandblaster, would simply sanding it down do the same job? And will an ordinary can of spray paint from Repco/Supercheap do the job?

    Yes, and yes.

Sand it back and prime it. How bad is this rust? Treat it if it is bad. Prime it, then spray it. Several light coats better than one heavy one. Enamel Paint, you can even brush it on if finish is not so important

Sand it dull with some emery paper as the ventura system is tubular. Enamel will scuff of with abrasion of the pack which is why I powder coated it. Just get all the rust of or your job will look shabby pretty quickly, and touch up with paint when it wears off. The trick is to get the enamel hard enough, perhaps baking it even.

Cool thanks for the tips. The rust is just on the surface and isn't too bad, just in a few areas where the paint has chipped off and where the rack and mounting bars fit together.

I'll give it a go this weekend
