Millions on welfare and ACC depend on you!
Go for a good long run, drink LOTS of water on the way and sweat it out!
This works, but you want to die if you’re out of shape (like me)
So try this:
Long hot bath, curl up on the couch with a blanket and an Irish Coffee or a hot chocolate, either with a crap book or a crap movie on TV.
It won’t cure you, but it makes my other 1/2 feel better so it works on some level!
I just sleep. (or run if I have to be well soon, like in 12 hours time)
We all have our little obsessions...
The easiest way to catch a cold/flu is to touch a door knob, then either eat food or wipe your eye. If someone has sneezed and, covered their mouth then touched that door knob before you your pretty much guaranteed to get it.
Since both the cold and flu are caused by viruses alcohol isn't going to effect it, alcohol kills bacteria. UV Light kills viruses (another reason why we hang clothes outside to dry).

My dearly beloved works in retail and has had two really bad colds in the past two months. I work from home, but have to go shopping for food and alcohol (well, not really - we still have heaps left over from the wedding!) and of course the germs can live on money and door handles and just about everything you can think of. And he gives me his germs when he comes home too!
The day before we flew to Australia for New Year I was coughed on by this woman in Coastlands who made NO attempt to cover her mouth - guess what? Within days I had a raging cold, no fun in 30C-plus temperatures. Cow, I'll be looking for her next time I go there...
Hot lemon drinks with a shot of brandy in them, plenty of fluids (chicken soup may not actually do anything but it tastes good!) and plenty of rest.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!
A few corrections, humbly proffered:Originally Posted by crashe

and the result was that she ended up with a transplant!
There is a reason why rest has always been recommended.
Vitamin C has failed to show any beneficial effects regarding immunity to viruses.
Chicken soup,on the other hand has shown beneficial results on recovery times -the mechanism is not known.
Rhinoviruses thrive in temperatures slightly below human body temp, that is why they infect the airways, where the outside air cools the membranes. If you can raise the temperature of these membranes, the viruses tend to die.
One researcher found that closing the nose with a swimmers clamp sped recovery.
Most people really have a cold, when they think they have the flu.If you don't have body aches, pain when you move your eyes etc it's probably just a cold.
The most efficient way that rhinoviruses get transmitted is by the hands directly to the mucosa (eyes nose mouth) so washing your hands helps. And you can get it by touching your eyes etc after handling something an infected person has touched.
So if you can keep your hands away from your face it makes it hard for the infection to occur.
As for being sneezed on,it only causes infection if the sneezer is within 3 feet of the sneezee.
Could that be because of all the antibiotics the chickens are fed ?Originally Posted by Pixie

I don't think so.The chicken soup thing is very old and predates antibiotics.Originally Posted by Mooch
And as you all should know....Antibiotics don't help viral infections.
You have a cold.Originally Posted by placidfemme
The 'common' cold is caused by a virus, of which there are some 150+ permutations. You cannot catch the same one twice, but symptoms are much the same for each, because that is the body's way of dealing with it.
The flu (influenza) is a much more serious ailment. It can kill. Usually associated with violent headaches, high temperatures, muscle pain & general weakness. If you ever have the 'flu, you will know the difference.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
