oh ok... so I have a cold...

I didn't know there were over 150 different strands of the cold... I usually get the cold twice a year, so by the time I'm 75 I'll be sweet yea?

    Maybe.....
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

They will have changed by then. You'll be back to square one. Infection vectors for viruses and bacteria are manifold. You can catch them just about anywhere, but if your immune system (as everyone else has said) is in good shape you'll be fine. However if everybody's immune system is in great shape, viruses in particular just mutatae. Viruses are practically immortal in their dormant state too, and can exist in huge extremes of pressure, temperature, and host deprivation.

lol we as humans have screwed ourselves... I was watching scrubs the other night... it was a repeat I think... and the cocky Dr said to the dorky Dr something about old people living until they're 80+ because Dr's can help them stay alive that long... because that is their job... but whats the point... they live until 80+ but all wish they had died at 50+...

    makes sense...

*doesn't wanna be old and dependant on others*

My advice for avoiding the nasty germy germs is smoke too much, drink too much coffee and alcohol, and exercise only if you can't avoid it! Works for me - I have had the flu twice in my life and in the last 10 years only three colds. Seems if you live an unhealthy life style, the nasties don't want to know you!

If you could only catch it from someone, it wouldn't exist. how would the first person get it?

Re: Exercise and the immune system.

Regular exercise and a balanced diet are the main things that help build the immune system, along with a healthy heart and lungs.

Note: Putting yourself under regular, strenuous, almost to the point of failure type exercise leaves the body trying to build back its energy reserves, repairing muscles etcetera, leaving little energy for the immune system. This is of course when you are the most susceptible to catching even the most minor of virii.
If you intend on doing the above, this is where you need to maintain a healthy diet, keep yourself warm (instead of having your body try and maintain the correct temp) and stay the hell away from other sick people!

This works, but you want to die if you’re out of shape (like me)
    So try this:
Long hot bath, curl up on the couch with a blanket and an Irish Coffee or a hot chocolate, either with a crap book or a crap movie on TV.
It won’t cure you, but it makes my other 1/2 feel better so it works on some level!
I just sleep. (or run if I have to be well soon, like in 12 hours time)

The main way the immune system is developed is by exposure to threats. This is why todays' kids are so feeble, you know the ones, those that live a germ free existence because their mothers believe the bullshit the ads tell them about cleanliness and are not allowed to play in the garden and eat dirt.
Humans and their ancestors evolved living in filth and our immune systems do not function correctly unless they are operating in the environment to which they are designed to deal with.
The latest research is indicating that a digestive system that does not contain some worms ,for instance, is not going to be as healthy as it could be.
