I did the whole AA thing for about 7-8 yrs, and it helped me, but I wanted more. It seemed most of the people there were addicted to AA. I have not been to a meeting for over 15yrs, and doing ok without it. The higher power thing is a biggy for a lot of people because as soon as you mention god or higher powers and stuff people think it is a religion or something. A guy who I knew in treatment had an ashtray as his higher power, but it worked for him. But He was a real Triumph nut, so maybe having an ashtray as a god was not so odd.

Non drinkers and reasons behind it
Maybe you should ask: Drinkers and reasons behind it?

I like a few drinks every now and then but I know when enough is enough and I don't give a shit if I "was so wasted man".

TBH alcohol isn't actually that much fun. (having.
said that I have about 5L of straight bourbon and 1L of that is blue label, 700ml devils cut and alot of my grandads homebrew haha)

So I fail spectacularly at the sober thing.

I was good til the 19th, when I started drinking for my birthday party.
Didn't drink sunday, but drank every night until today. When someone gave me their head cold. I've decided I'll just keep drinking. I'm nicer when I drink.

Don't worry. I have had a drink every night since you started this thread/diary and feel great.

...well, no alcohol has passed my lips for a couple of weeks now..don't know if GM's plight made me think about my habits or if it was just coincidental...nonetheless I have been a fairly constant drinker for 40+ years...a few months off 20+ years ago when it WAS problematic...i feel quite good for it, have saved quite a few bucks and have got a lot more done...even been out daily on a mountain bike left at my place recently...i am definitely going to carry on modifying my habits....i'm also taking a bottle of honey bourbon away this weekend when we get together with old mates out of town for a catchup...cheers GM... you will either stop or not when you are ready...

I don't drink because the stuff makes me feel nauseous. Oh yes, its also poison and kills people but who cares about that...

True. I do drink half a glass or so from time to time for the sake of being social. Can't remember exactly when the last time was though... Drinking to excess just makes me feel sick, so I don't.

The other side effect is that the wife/mistress/girlfriend look better...or is that just me?

Yeah, but you have forgotten about the beer goggles that make the top picture true.
