Next time you should double distill it. Distill about 3 batches of alcohol, then put the distilled product back into the still to get an even more pure brew.

    Hey GM,

Good on you for posting, gets people thinking eh?

Mate some times it just gets so fucked up - drinking, other substances, relationships, deaths in the family, lose your job, earthquakes tra la, tra la, tra la. And it can be so hard to see a way out of it because life doesn't present you you one problem at a time to deal with. People can tell you to harden up or abstain or whatever, and well it's good advice, it's also asking you to exert a shit load of effort in self control at a time when your stress levels are high and your energy low. If you fail you tend to beat up on yourself even more and this can turn in to a fairly deadly spiral.

Just based on what you have written, it may be time to seek some professional help. There is a lot available out there, its often free, and believe me it helps.

    Kia kaha.

what is the point of that? you end up with a fairly pure ethanol, so the only reason you would consume it is to get fucked up? You've got it ass-backwards, son. getting tiddly is a by-product of drinking, not the purpose. Trust me, no one wants to hear from you at 3am. No one wants to see your manscaping, or wake up with your sick on their shoes.

The point in double distillation is to increase the purity, and therefore quality of the ethanol by removing more unwanted alcohols. That's exactly why reflux stills are capable of producing a much higher quality spirit than a pot still.

I have a basic reflux still which produces alcohol at 89% ABV, and when watered down to 40% ABV the spirit is siginificantly cleaner than the alcohol produced from a pot still or reflux still which produces alcohol at a much lower strength, even when the wash is produced in an almost identical manner with similar cuts being taken relative to the quantity being distilled.

    Hangover lasts a good week.

I kinda can't be bothered and my bike and life are to expensive at mo anyway!

That being said I don't really go out to pubs either.

I find them boring. Loud shit music and creeps and dumb drunk bitches looking for a leg to hump.

Yes I think it's official I'm old and uncool...meh I'm ok with that.

im totally agreeing with you on most of that except i like a cool beer after chopping down a few trees on a hot day.

otherwise i find drinking mostly a waste of time,i would rather be doing a million other things i enjoy better.

Invited down to the pub to drink beer in the sun, what am I doing instead? Cleaning my big tropical fish tank out. Cos its maintenance time. Oddly this appeals more than being drunk.

Try my recipe (for a 25L batch), and scale it down if you need to:

    5kg sugar
1.5 cups tomato paste (make sure it's preservative free, a little added salt is fine)
    1 tbsp citric acid
    6 tbsp baking yeast

It tastes pretty damn good and the ingredients aren't going to attract unwanted attention.

I'm about as close to teetotal as possible, but perhaps not quite, although I can't remember the last time I drank alcohol, several years ago at least.

Parents allowed me to try alcohol as a kid, so there was never the fascination with "forbidden stuff", as I'm sure how most kids start drinking. Never liked the taste, beer or wine, can't tell the difference between wines or beers either, it all tastes like shit to me, so what's the point. Also enjoyed not burning wads of cash on alcohol as well. Did enjoy recounting the stories of a previous night when the participants in the story had no clue.

From a health side, I don't drink tea, coffee or energy drinks either (except Powerade - was thinking more of V or Red Bull etc). None of them are particularly healthy either. Caffeine also makes you stay awake (for most anyway - for some it has the opposite effect), which could explain OP's sleep problems. Had a family friend who had lots of energy drinks to get through a day until a doctor said she had arrhythmia and had to cut it out. She's a heap healthier for it as well. Having some sort of combination of the above probably plays hell with your body. Alcohol isn't a good idea on a ride either, as it's a diuretic, so dehydrates you faster, affecting concentration etc.

As for parties, don't attend many, but don't feel the need to substitute anything either, as there is no pull. If I'm thirsty I just have soft drinks when wanted.

As I say to people, I only have one vice, I just make it a good one. The amount I spend on biking is horrendous

I have a mate who cannot go out and have one beer. One beer and he just can't stop till he's pissed. Not sure whether its the alcohol or psychological but he has been like it since i have known him (20 odd years).
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

That's a bit like I was, I found it easier to just not drink at all
