    Hopkins doubtful after practice crash
    News, 29/07/05

Suzuki’s John Hopkins suffered a heavy crash in the second free practice session at Sachsenring – on what looked like being his fastest lap of the day – which cut short his involvement and left him 12th overall.

Hopkins managed to get back to the pit-box but was unable to continue riding. He has gone straight to the medical centre and was diagnosed with a fracture of the 5th metatarsal on the left foot and contusion of the right hand and the chest. He will have to undergo a medical check tomorrow morning before the third free practice session.

John Hopkins’ Crew Chief Stuart Shenton said: “We worked very hard this afternoon trying to find a race tyre. We were on the third tyre of the day when unfortunately John went down quite hard going down the hill. We hope he is going to be alright!”

“The biggest concern for tomorrow is John’s condition,” added team manager Paul Denning. “He suffered a fourth gear high-side towards the end of FP2. He seemed fairly unfazed by it, but chipped teeth and potential injuries to hand, foot and ribs are of course a concern. We are all keeping our fingers crossed that he is fit enough to race and race hard. I believe that if it’s physically possible to ride the bike, John will be on it tomorrow.”

Hmmmm, Rossi doesn't seem to be enjoying it much. Maybe THIS one will be a challenge for the young man.

Nah, Vale doesn't like this place too much. I noted on the news tonight that he dumped it in the kitty litter in one ofthe sessions after a front end lose, probably in turn three.

If I remember correctly he was 4th last year behind Biaggi, Barros and Hayden ( I may have Hayden and Barros the wrong way around? ) But hey, he's got that much of a lead on the rest of the pack in the championship he could afford to not even race here and he'd still win the title quite easily.

But that's what everyone has said before the last 5 rounds, lol. He always starts off slow and then improves, his crash would have put a spanner in the works but he'll still be on the front row. If i remember correctly he had fairly big tyre problems with his yamaha last year and he faded towards the end. It would be a brave man to say he won't win again and I'm a pussy

On a slightly different note, looks like there's a new face to motogp this weekend

    Capirossi on top

    latest from MotoGP.com

Loris Capirossi was the fastest in the last free practice session before the Alice Motorrad GP Deutschland qualifying practice at Sachsenring. The Ducati Marlboro rider was the fastest by 0.'057 ahead of Sete Gibernau, followed by Honda factory colleagues Nicky Hayden and Alex Barros.

Colin Edwards was fifth fastest, while his Gauloises Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi was only eighth fastest, behind Carlos Checa and Troy Bayliss. Local hero Alex Hofmann posted the ninth fastest lap on the Kawasaki, ahead of Makoto Tamada.

At Suzuki, John Hopkins was able to take part to the session and clock 17 laps after crashing and injuring his foot in yesterday's second free practice session. However, he didn't improve his best time compared to the first session.

I was pleased to see your post tonight WT.

When I read that Rossi had tested the gravel trap and had passed the comment that this was one of his least favourite tracks, my first reaction was to think,
    "WT'll like this". :-)

Of course, there is so much daylight between him and any of the other riders that even on his least favourite track he may still have enough.

    Interesting though.

So its kenny hayden on pole, wonder if he can take his 2nd victory of the year, i'll say he crashes on lap 10 or so. Rossi will still win.
