    How is NZ these days?

Thinking about moving to NZ sometime in the next few years again.... how's the economy doing there for engineering ?? Is the world recession affecting things much?

Calgary, AB, Canada is doing better than most places aparently, that is where I'm camping out for now. New Zealand is where I should live some day, it's calling me...

You can do well anywhere, with the right attitude.

100% agree. I think it really is mostly attitude, and some worth ethic and never give up on what you love to do.

If you''re a structural engineer, there's work here in consultancy. If you're in other areas, it's slow. Other than slowly gearing up for the Chch rebuild and building interest in new areas of clean technology (marine, hydro, wind, geothermal), it's a plateau at the moment.

There are a couple of engineering firms down here that are doing remarkably well, mostly to do with the dairy industry though.

We have engineers coming out our ears plus a shit load coming straight from uni that can't find work anywhere other than Mc Donalds.
NZ is currently fulling up with immigrants from failed shit holes like South Africa and the UK that have no personal investment in our country and even less loyalty than they did for the places they ran away from in the first place,,,so take a ticket an stand in line you'll fit in well.

But don't you see, that's why the Gubbermint set off a atomic bomb under Christchurch, so that suddenly there'll be demand for new engineers... Good thing for me I got my tin foil hat on, otherwise they can read my mind right now.

Any country with that many niggers is going to be shit. If you actually lived in South Africa you'd understand why I came over here to flee the violence the country is suffering from, but you're either too stupid or ignorant to understand that.

Fella you need to wake up,NZ has long been full of natives that have no personal investment in our country and even less interest in giving a fuck,at least many of the immigrants have the means to feed themselves and and an interest in getting up in the morning to go to a job.

The best part is that they're not even a native species to NZ, yet they act like they are.

No personal investment...you're full of shite!
    1) many immigrants slog their guts out to make NZ a new home, including bringing capital from 'home' to invest in businesses here is NZ. That's called creating jobs buddy.
    2) Less loyalty to NZ than where they (we...I am SA'n) were...Actually, I am very loyal to both SA and NZ. I appreciate NZ for what it gave me, I also love SA and wish it were a better place than what it presently is to that I could have stayed there, in the place that will always be my homeland. However, my wife is a kiwi and my kids will be kiwi's and there are many things I love about NZ and I will continue to invest time and energy into being an active and productive part of this community. More so than some kiwi's do! Besides, someone has to come in and replace all the kiwi's bailing to Aussie!

The fact is, there is a portion of the population here, and in fact anywhere in the world, that is closed minded and unaware of the facts, only wanting to see things through your prejudiced view point. Well yay for you, I am sure you see all sorts of positive things all around you.
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.

So, maybe it is all for the best... It is some time I think to move in NZ and hoped that being structural / earthquake eng. and having got a PhD in such field, there were some room for people like me. It is difficult to make a choice only when pro and cons are nearly balanced but job troubles are great cons
