    Breastfeeding in public?

While we're on dreary sunday news discussions.... (with no hidden lols this time):

Twitterer's are outraged and the guys account has been locked for posting a picture of a mum breastfeeding. http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/6953...eed-photo-post

Pro-breast feeders want it to become a normal and natural thing that you can do in public. You are legally allowed to take photo's of people doing stuff in public. The reaction isn't to a mum and her baby being posted by a stranger on line, it's about the breast.

Should people expect to do stuff in public, but then expect special rules of privacy to also apply?

if women want to flop a tit out in public, i dont care, but they best not whine about people having a perve at said tit.

I have nothing against breastfeeding in public, it is normal/natural. But what "some" breast feeders forget is that "some" people are highly offended by it and that it can be done very discretely. (Hello ladies you don't need to flop the whole thing out to the point that EVERYONE in the vicinity cops an eye full). When I was out for with my son we would always sit in areas where I could position myself turned in toward the wall to feed him, I always had a small blanket to throw over my shoulder and his head, a-frame bras that pretty much cover most of the breast etc, or I would head back to the car. Unlike my aunt who managed to absolutely flop both breasts out for public display outside a cafe.

I don't think special rules of privacy apply, but a little bit of thought/respect from each side of the fence couldn't go a stray. Don't like it, don't look. Want to do it, cover up a tad.

On that note..... Public place or not, what kind of asshole takes photos of some random woman breast feeding and posts them on the internet anyway?

That's not what happened. It wasn't just some guy perving at her (I see a nice girl in a low-cut top, I too have a look at her tits), he took a picture, publicised it, and had a moan.

    That's just childish behaviour.

Geez, he actually seemed to have an issue with tits. His reaction wasn't merely "hey look at these tits", it was more of disgust. He's got problems in his own head.

If he took pictures of someone deformed and posted the pictures for us all to "have a laugh", that'd be wrong. This is little different.

Most people accept the Mothers choice to breatfeed where she did.

That guy made choices too (To take a picture. To distribute the picture. To whine about it.), but fewer people accept those choices. He showed himself to be a dork.

I'm really hating the "it's not my/his fault" aspect of current society. Someone makes a mistake and leaves the keys in their car, and it's stolen. Today, we have people who blame the key-leaver, as though the car-stealer just "couldn't help it". That Mother wasn't wearing some low-cut top, she was feeding her child. She has the right to expect adults to behave like grown-ups.
Measure once, cut twice. Practice makes perfect.

    You talkin to me??

To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded

FFS women in Toronto are legally allowed to walk around topless... tits are everywhere, who gives a flying fuck about a baby getting fed as and when it needs to be fed... OMG it's a boob and she's shoving it in some poor child's face and the breast in more than half way out of its holster . Makes me wanna bludgeon people to death when I hear them say they get offended by such things, weak minded pathetic sub species that they are. Grow the fuck up... fuckin idiots.

I had a customer meeting some weeks back - sitting in the office with Mr & Mrs and their baby who starts to cry - out comes the boob in the middle of the meeting. Weird. Acceptable? Hmmm I at least thought she'd ask if it was OK! But then I'd have had the whole delimea of saying yes or no ....

Those women that want, or see the need to breast feed in a public area ...will see it as their right if they choose. They see it as acceptable. Just as cigarette smokers feel it is their right/acceptable to light up when they want .... regardless of legislation or public opinion.

Is it more a matter of personal convenience at the time ... or .... and ... (???) is the instant feed for the baby when it first cries ... the start of expectation that you will always get what you want the minute you ask ... ???

As always, the solution lies in mutual respect and consideration.

Breastfeeding can (and should) be done in public. But it can (and should) be done discreetly. The overt and belligerent display of bare breasts is unnecessary.

I blame the Facebook generation. The online support groups simply encourage a frenzy of unbalanced "fuck you" attitude. We have a society more obsessed with "my rights", which is dismissive and blind to the rights of others.

I have actively blocked women on Facebook who insist on posting overt breast photos in relation to breastfeeding, who then rage hysterically when facebook takes action in response to complaints. Trying to reason with such obsessive nutters is pointless.

Urinating is perfectly natural too. I can stand at a public urinal with my dick out without concern - but I can't (and shouldn't) be posting explicit photos of it on the internet.

    Respect is a two-way process.
