Hi

I just put extra 4 gig of RAM into my PC. My problem is that the system acknowledges it is there, but does not recognise it. (Yes I made sure new Ram matches the old and is compatible). I have read up that I need to flash my BIOS in order for the new Ram to work. I am not a computer literate and don't grasp the situation enough to want to do it my self. is there anyone in Hamilton who would be willing to spend an hour and help me with the above. Happy to make coffee/tea or pay with beer money? etc

Yes I am on a budget unfortunately.

Purchased 8GB the other month and then remembered I had to finally get off XP to be able to use it

I am away from my home computer, so will have to check the exact Moderboard details, but it is the Asus P7P55DE_PRO board, pretty sure Ram is Kingston (will confirm) I5 760 2.8GHZ processor running Windows 7 64bit

Had exsisting 4 gig of RAM, just added another 4 GIG based on what was already there.

How much can vista handle?

Depends whether hardware is 32bit or 64bit

32bit limit is 4GB and 64bit is from 8Gb up to 128Gb depending on the flavour of Vista.

and try the Bios settings before contemplating flashing the Bios.

its a long shot by try taking out the old ram and replace the ram bays with the new - keep going with this type of swapping until something becomes apparent, if at all. it could be faulty ram bays

Swap old with new in same slot. If it recognised 4GB, then new RAM is being recognised.
Put new ram in other slot. If recognised 4GB then other slot is OK.

Some of the early cheap socket 775 boards had 4GB limitations but your LGA 1156 boards should not have this issue. Try just setting to "bios defaults" and see if that fixes before flashing.

Even 32 bit windoze shows 8GB. It just says something like 3.XGB avaialble or usable or summit like that.
