NSW ditches rego stickers for tech

    http://www.zdnet.com.au/nsw-ditches-...-339338529.htm
From 1 January 2013, NSW motorists will no longer have to display registration stickers on their vehicles...
Interesting. NSW is getting rid of rego stickers. They say they don't need them because technology like number plate readers means there not needed. So save the expense.

On the flip side, other people who already have this are saying there is more unregistered vechicles now, because humans can't tell if there rego is expired by just looking at the vehicle now.

We tend to copy Australia, so I think it is only a mater of time before we get this to. So should we stick the expense of printing out stickers, posting them to everyone, and having them adhered to our windows, or just keep the money for doing this in our back pocket?

It will make my bike look less dodgy than having the vehicle license label flipped the wrong way round to hide the fact that it's on hold.

I'm all for it as long as it doesn't impact/increase our [already high] rego fees...

    >> round to hide the fact that it's on hold.<<

You'll have to flip the whole number plate - the cameras scan the plate and the fines are issued automatically.

Compared to NSW your fees are still quite low and you get more for them.

They did this in W.A. beginning of last year.

It's a right pain in the arse!

Since when have they been posting out rego stickers? Reminders yes, but the actual labels themselves? They would still have to post out reminders with each vehicle.

Anyway, small points aside. It's damn handy as a dealer as it tells us at a glance exactly what year the vehicle we are trading is and how much reg is left, along with first year of rego.

For a long time. If you buy your rego online (like I do), they post out the sticker.

Yup knew you could do that. But I doubt the majority do it that way. Or I would be surprised.

    Why pain?

I'd rather be without the things cluttering up my bike.

    It's coming.

There was talk of using the ANPR technology in Wellington to charge a congestion tax owned and controlled by NZTA/ Local Council. Not sure how far that got.

I think its a great idea.

A human being might notice an unlicenced Harley.

A number plate recognition system will just see a perfectly legal moped.
