The Llama? On here?
I can talk to some people.

Yeah...cos it's soooooooo different to the Aussie sausage sizzle.
Don't waste your time with the bureaucratic idiots at your local council. If you bring it to their attention then they have to do summit about it. You'll have to pay them a brib....sorry....permit fee. Disposable gloves and napkins seem like a good idea.

Hey mashman Years ago to help pay for racing I ran a legal /permitted hot dog stand on a friday/saturday night.
trust me on this one. Avoid the officials -its a total nightmare.
You need a food hygene cert, cool storage, washing facilities etc etc
Not wanting to cause you strife here but is it possible that in fact the other vendor is the official vendor for the grounds?.--Ie they pay to be there and have all the legal stuff required.
I know if I was paying good money for exclusive rights to a venue I'd be mighty peeved if someone set up in competition to me.
Just a thought--I love the idea and the thinking behind it. Have you concidered aproaching Mithre 10 or the red shed?
In west dorkland every saturday and sunday theres an "official" sausage sizzle out front -I think the shop supplies all the gear/legal stuff and the cricket/hockey/netball club supplies the food and gas and staffing.

Cheers Frosty... I had a brief look see what it entailed the other day, as have other parents, and you don't just need food storage, you need a fridge as cool boxes just don't cut it anymore... Tis a pisser as the schools have been doing these things for a while without people getting poisoned etc... and then this fella turns up with his license to cook. Hey ho, I guess the rules are the rules for a reason (tui).
I wish it were that easy. You need a licence essentially. It looks like it's nothing to do with food safety other than there may be a course involved on how to keep food from poisoning people. Yes I realise that that's a contradiction in terms, but it isn't like people are going out of their way to poison others. The thing that gets me is that even though this guy has a licence, his kids could be the ones doing the prep/cooking etc... as there's nothing to say that HE has to be responsible for the action, just responsible for the outcome should someone get ill. There's no real logic in it and judging by the comments I think we all see that. But you're right and that's why I'm not gonna rock up with my BBQ and food to give away with every badge that is bought... there's a school and other parents to think about and I appreciate their stance of not wanting to incur the wrath of the council, even if there are obvious ways around the "rules".

Good point. I'm with Mashie but we can't knock the vendor guy. He's just a Kiwi trying to make a living, small business, exactly the sort of person we need to encourage and support. If he's got a license and a concession for the area, that's cost him dough and faffing around with bureaucrats. Plus does anyone really think this is the road to riches? Not my idea of a fun job.
Yep, the Wharehouse provides the BBQ + gas, all you need are the sausages etc. However they may now be checking on food service rules too, they won't want any bad publicity.
sorry mashman I was kinda simplifying a bit. What about NOT doing food but having a on the spot type raffle instead.
$2.00 donation puts ya in the draw for a meatpack or similar. --less mess and easier to run.

nahhhh, they just decide to play by the rules instead of making a mockery of the rules by going around them.
