Most definately! What a way to teach kids that the best way to get money ISN'T to go out and EARN it. Paper run?? Why bother earning fuck-all when you lose out to the tax? Great incentives for the kids.

I actually agree with you by the way. talk about disincentivise kids to go and get jobs. (Or, give them an early introduction to the black economy)
The other groups you refer to are all beneficiaries in one form or another. I think it's unreasonable to single out one group of tax-paying wage earners, and say "You can't submit a tax return on the basis that the average income of your peers is too low, and has nothing to do with how much you actually earn."

A hard-working youngster could easily earn say $6K a year doing various part-time work. Especially if working several jobs, they may be entitled to a reasonable tax refund - but they now can't claim. Meanwhile, their stay-at-home mum who earned maybe $2K helping out in a friend's shop occasionally, can still apply for a miniscule refund. The situation is discriminatory and inequitable.

They wouldn't get away with targetting any other low-income demographic in this manner.
I dont believe it will be all that bad. Their IRD number will be with them for life ... and as such, their entitlements of any returns will stay in the system. On THEIR file. Later rather than sooner they will get it added (or deducted) to/from money owed to/from the IRD.

If they declared the earnings from babysitting, pocket money, birthday/christmas gift money's ... they may be in a different tax bracket ... and/or have NONE owed ... and have to PAY more ....

With the possibility of charges of non declaration of income.

Be careful what you ask for ... it may bite them in the ass ...

Except you only have 5 or 7 years (i forget the exact time) to declare tax refunds, which is fine if you are working at 16 but not if you are younger.

    Dear Mr. Key

Please find below our suggestion for fixing NZ's economy.

Instead of giving billions of dollars to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan..
You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 200,000 people over 50 in the work force.

Pay them $1 million each severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

    1) They MUST retire.
200,000 job openings - unemployment fixed

    2) They MUST buy a new car.
200,000 cars ordered - Car Industry fixed

    3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage -
    Housing Crisis fixed

    4) They MUST send their kids to school/college/university -
    Crime rate fixed

    5) They MUST buy $100 WORTH of alcohol/tobacco a week .......
and there's your money back in duty/tax etc

    6) Instead of stuffing around with the carbon emissions trading scheme that makes us pay for the major polluters, tell the greedy b......s to reduce their pollution emissions by 75% within 5 years or we shut them down.

It can't get any easier than that!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances

    Also .

Let's put the pensioners in jail and the criminals in a nursing home.

This way the pensioners would have access to showers, hobbies and walks.
They'd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs etc and they'd receive money instead of paying it out.
They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance.
Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.
A guard would check on them every 20 minutes and bring their meals and snacks to their cell.
They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.
They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counselling, pool and education.
Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, PJ's and legal aid would be free, on request.
Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens.
Each senior could have a PC a TV radio and daily phone calls.
There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct that would be strictly adhered to.

The criminals would get cold food, be left all alone and unsupervised.
Lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week. Live in a tiny room and pay $600.00 per week and have no hope of ever getting out.

Think about this (more points of contention):

THE NZ CONSTITUTION - They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq .... Why don't we just give them ours?
It was drawn up by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for centuries and we're not using it anymore.

    nice post dude. lmfao.

but NZ doesn't have a constitution. the government was not formed by constitution or consent.
they are defacto. they formed when the monarchy abandoned us as a colony. yet the legislation maintains the fictitious entity "the crown" for saying things to scare you into compliance....

Man I hope this is true...

"New Zealand House will be Parliament's Speaker Lockwood Smith's new office if he becomes the next ambassador to the United Kingdom as is widely tipped. The 2012 Budget detailed a proposal to spend $150m on upgrading the embassy out of the proceeds of asset sales, though the National Party are now claiming it was a "mistake"."

Yea! And they should've hit those sods trying to raise funds via sausage sizzles on Saturdays.

The price outside the local Warehouse has gone up 50c to $2 a snarler, and they are not even paying taxes, It's bloody disgusting, seeing these school team fundraisers ripping poor Bill English off. I dont know how those Mums and Dads can sleep at night.
